It is our aim as an association to offer all of our students a safe, friendly and fun environment in which to train. All SEFKA instructors are First Aid qualified and CRB checked. We aim to produce the best results possible in each of our students, regardless of age, ability or disability. We aim to teach students to be courteous, respectful and to refrain from violence.
The SEFKA style of Karate derives from two distinct lines of Martial Arts. The first is in Japanese Wado Ryu Karate and the second in the early forms of Korean Taekwondo. However it can be traced back further than this, first to Gichin Funakoshi who was the founder of Shotokan Karate and then back through Okinawa Karate (The accepted birthplace of Japanese Karate).
Beginners at the club wear a white belt, as you progress you can grade to attain belts in the following order. The grading takes place in front of a panel of Black Belts, for Brown/Black Belt grading's the panel will comprise of senior black belt grades. During the grading the panel will mark students on correct application of techniques, etiquette, spirit, effort and fitness, based on each students own physical ability.
When entering or leaving the Dojo, at beginning & end of training, addressing Sensei or senior instructor, training with another student and at a gradings where required. 1. Please do not be late for class. If for good reason you are late, stand to the side of the Dojo and wait for the instructor to acknowledge you, bow and then join the class.
Kata ( or, literally: "Form") is a Japanese word describing detailed choreographed patterns of movements practised either solo or in pairs. The term form is used for the corresponding concept in non-Japanese martial arts in general. Kata are used by most traditional Japanese and Okinawan martial arts, such as aikid, iaid, jd, jd, jjutsu, kenjutsu, kend and karate.
