Colin G Crawford
Colin Crawford is a piano tuner technician with 30 years' experience based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, covering the entire Cotswold area, the Stroud Valleys and surrounding counties, including: Cheltenham - Gloucester - Stroud - Cirencester - Forest of Dean - Tewkesbury - Stow - Moreton - Evesham.

As well as tuning and repairs, he offers an unbiased advisory service for piano buyers and will sell pianos on a commission basis. Buying a piano can be a difficult process and good impartial advice is invaluable when undertaking such a decision. Often a piano dealer is more interested in selling his own stock than advising the client on the best instrument for his or her budget.
Services
Your first choice for piano tuning, repairs and advice in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and the Cotswold area. I commenced my training as a piano tuner-technician in the early 1980s at the London College of Furniture (now the Guildhall University) under Malcolm McKeand, (Bosendorfer UK) and the late Tom Perry (Steinway & Sons).
I am currently experiencing picture upload problems, but I have a few clients with good used pianos for sale, so if you are searching for any particular type of piano, please give me a call. All pianos featured below are the property of private clients and not "stock" pianos. Remember that private sale pianos are unwarranted and transport is not included in the prices stated.
In general, a piano requires regular tuning whether or not it is played. The ever-changing levels of heat and humidity in the average sitting room will cause a piano's structural components and strings to expand and contract at varying rates. Over time this will result in the tension of the strings changing and resulting in an out of tune piano.
I believe that a piano tuner should be first and foremost a tuner, not a dealer. A tuner with a stock of pianos is by definition a dealer, and is likely to try and sell one of his own instruments rather than offer the best instrument for his client's needs. Instead I prefer to listen to a client's requirements and locate a selection of pianos for the client to try.
Digital pianos have become a popular alternative to the traditional acoustic piano in recent years owing to their relative cheapness and lightness, but the service life of these is considerably shorter than a traditional piano. Keys in particular often become fractured or sluggish. I offer a complete repair service and will give unbiased advice on whether repairs will be lasting and cost-effective.
