We offer a variety of introductory meditation classes, retreats, one-day meditation workshops, art courses, and in-depth study programmes. There is something for everyone - both beginners and more experienced meditators. Our principal teacher is Kadam Bridget Heyes, who is also the National Spiritual Director of the UK. Services
Nagarjuna Kadampa Meditation Centre Thornby is set in the beautiful countryside of Northants where it serves as a special place of peace and refuge. Everyone is welcome to visit or stay and enjoy this peaceful place. The Centre has beautiful meditation rooms, a relaxing World Peace Caf, extensive gardens, and guest and residents rooms.
The purpose of meditation is to cultivate those states of mind that are conducive to peace and well-being and to eradicate those that are not. If we examine our life we will discover that most of our time and energy is devoted to mundane activities, such as seeking material and emotional security, enjoying sensory pleasures, or establishing a good reputation.
The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is peaceful we shall be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we shall experience true happiness. By training in meditation, we can gradually learn to stay peaceful all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.
The meditation classes and events explain Buddhist meditation, ideas, and practice. They combine guided meditation with practical spiritual advice that you can apply immediately to relieve stress and solve problems in your life. The classes are suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators.
Here are some common questions that people ask about our meditation classes. If you have any other questions please call or email us and we will be happy to help you in any way. Q: Do I need to be Buddhist to attend a weekly class? A: No. We try to present Buddha's teachings in a way that is accessible to everyone.

I have just returned home from a wonderful weekend at Nagarjuna Kadampa Meditation Center at Thornby Hall. I was made to feel welcome from the second I arrived all the way through until I came home. A special thank you to Pet who guided us through the meditations and explaining some of the thinking behind the teachings. I was due to attend an earlier event but had to cancel at the last minute due to being admitted to hospital, so a big thank you to Sian for sorting everything out an booking me on to this weekend.
I don't think in all the time I was there I didn't see anybody who wasn't smiling

I spent the day and night here. All staff, helpers, are friendly and welcoming. It's well organised. The food is great, cafe has good selection, there is space do walk around the lovely wooded gardens. Very… good opportunity to focus on meditation. I decided to stay the night. The rooms are warm, cosy, clean. Cannot fault it. Appreciate the little touches, torch, tissues, tea, water. I would definately stay again. Great getaway in beautiful, quiet surroundings.

Thornby Hall and the beautiful surrounding gardens could be the scenary of a fairytale! And you'll meet some incredibly kind and caring people. The café serves great coffees, sandwiches, salads and homemade cakes and the lovely people who work in it are always kind and friendly. Also, if you have dogs with you they'll always offer fresh water for them with a smile on their faces :) And the website will give you all the information you need about courses, retreats and volunteering opportunities. Great experience!

It was great to be back at the centre, this time for a weekend retreat. The whole weekend was wonderful, very well planned to ensure a Covid safe weekend, the detail and planning was impressive! The Stables… retreat rooms are just perfect, cosy, and relaxing. Food was wonderful as always. Thank you to Lorraine, Agnes , Amanda and all of the other many volunteers who made the weekend perfect. Thank you, look forward to next time

Just came back from a lovely weekend at the Nagarjuna Kadampa Meditation Centre with my wife and cannot praise it highly enough.
At first we were unsure as to what to expect as never done anything like this before but after arrival before 6pm on Friday we were welcomed to dinner with the nuns and residents of the centre so immediately felt welcome.
There are many plus points to the centre, well centre doesn't describe the building accurately, it's a lovely grade 2 listed building with many interesting features and a well maintained extensive garden to explore.
