The Poloplaey chair represents a collaboration which began over a year ago between Loft and Plaey Studio. Loft's Robin Day designed Polo seats are produced using the original 1970's injection moulding tool. When the seats are manufactured, as with most mass produced products, there are inevitably some which have minor superficial imperfections meaning they are structurally sound but deemed unsuitable for full price sale.
Rather than simply recycling these seats we wanted to achieve their intended potential whilst also creating something with form, function and environmental responsibility at its heart. All of the Robin Day Collection are licensed iconic 20th Century Great British Designs. These designs span almost 60 years of Robin Day's design career: Q Stak was designed in 1952, Robin Day Club Chair 1962, Leo 1965, Delphi range 1968, and Polo Chair 1973.

Iconic 20th Century Great British Designs Spanning almost 60 years of Robin Day's design career. Not many chairs can boast the accolades of being both one of The Royal Mail's Design Classics of the 20th Century and The Guardian's Ten Best Product Designs; but Robin Day's polypropylene Polo chair can.
Loft is based in Leeds in Northern England & we distribute our collection, which includes an exclusive range of furniture designed by Robin Day, all over the world. Robin Day and Loft first met in 2000 when we collaborated on a City Design Project, Leeds Design Week, in which Robin Day kindly signed some Polo chairs as a prize to be auctioned.
