Jamieson & Smith
Jamieson & Smith have been around since the 1930s, when it was founded by the Smith family of Berry Farm in Scalloway, on the east coast of Shetland. In the 60s, we re-located to our current premises overlooking the harbour in Lerwick. Our little cluster of buildings on the North Road includes our wool sheds and a renovated church - which is now our yarn store.

In 2004 the Smith family retired and we joined with Curtis Wool Direct in Yorkshire. Jamieson & Smith continues to be staffed by Shetlanders and we remain a stand alone company, in that the profits received from the sale of Real Shetland Wool and Real Shetland Wool products come back into the Shetland economy and are passed along to our number one priority, the wool producer.
Services
Yarns & fibres
Report
In 1968 Jamieson & Smith decided to have some of the Real Shetland Wool they bought from the crofters and farmers of Shetland spun into knitting yarns. We have produced a range of Real Shetland Knitting yarns to suit the needs of the knitters and craft's people around the globe ever since, we were amongst the first of our type of company to begin direct mail order to our customers.
Shetland Heritage
Report
Shetland Heritage yarnre creates the original characteristics of handspun 'wursit' used in old Fair Isle garments. The yarn is replicated from that found in knitted Fair Isle garments in the collection of Shetland Museum and Archives. Wool experts, specialist dyers, curators and knitters worked together to develop and trial Shetland Heritage yarn, which is worsted spun from Jamieson & Smith's combed tops to give a soft feel, and a smooth finish.
2ply Jumper Weight
Report
Our Jumper weight yarns are 100% Shetland wool and are traditionally used in the knitting of Fair Isle garments. Available in the full pallette of beautiful shades originally designed by Jamieson and Smith, this yarn is our flagship yarn, and cannot be imitated in terms of depth of colour and spinning quality - although many have tried!
Supreme Jumper Weight
Report
Shetland Supreme Jumper Weight is woollen spun, completely undyed range of 100% Shetland Wool available in 9 shades. Some are as they come off the sheep and a number are blended from the natural colours. As this is an undyed range we strongly advise getting enough for your project at one time as dye lots can vary immensely.
The Croft Shetland Aran
Report
Produced in collaboration with West Yorkshire Spinners this Aran weight yarn is perfect for plain knitting as well as Fair Isle and colourwork. The high levels of crimp and wave in the fleece make it ideal for a hand knitting yarn. The Croft has a soft and silky handle that retains a lot of durabilities particularly suited to our new tweed collection.
