Archana is based in Ahmedabad and is widely known throughout India for encouraging craftsmen and women to use their skills in the clothing that she makes. Archana has for many years worked with groups of artisans in Gujarat and beyond.

In January this year, at short notice, Sarah was asked to organise a trip to India, in particular, Rajasthan. It was to become a journey / holiday of a lifetime, thanks to her impeccable arrangements, and that of her sister organisation in India.

I met Sarah Mahaffy the founder and owner of Maharani when she exhibited at the National Geographic Society a few weeks ago. She has a passion for East Indian textiles and this is apparent in the ladies designer wear she sells at her shop in Fulham Road. The first thing I noticed was the quality which was far superior to the quality which ones associates with Indian made clothes. Then the stunning colours and wide choice of silk dresses,coats and scarves, not to mention the cotton padded jackets.
