Success in exams is largely due to the amount of practice they put in, but I also work hard on motivation and in making the learning experience enjoyable. I teach up to Grade 8 in both piano and singing for the Associated Board and Trinity exams. I also coach advanced singers to Diploma level. I teach because I really enjoy it.
However my work means that lesson times occasionally have to flexible to accommodate my rehearsals and performances. I have worked professionally for over 40 years, having trained at the Royal College of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and am a member of English National Opera. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have and then, if you're ready, you can book an introductory session.

A skill for life and the gift of self-expression through the interpretation and playing of music. Whether it's Bach or the Beatles, hip hop or musicals, everybody can find some style of music which suits their mood and enables them to escape to a different place somewhere within - where it is possible to lose themselves and express deep feelings and emotions.
The singing voice is an amazing thing. It stays with you all of of your life and matures as you do, and around your mid-forties is at its prime. Because it is a part of us, the voice is immensely flexible, and capable of a vast array of different colours and nuances of inflection. It has the instant ability to show and reflect our feelings keenly.
Being able to enjoy and appreciate music is very enriching - and being able to entertain other people is something that can also prove very useful. Learning the language of music helps concentration and also develops an inner discipline that will benefit a person in anything else they learn. It's particularly good for teenagers, who can channel emotions and adolescent angst into their music and therefore have a way of getting their feelings out.
