In today's environmentally conscientious world, the conversion of paper, books, microfilm and microfiche documents to electronic formats, which can be stored on CD, DVD or hard disks, provides benefits to many organisations. It reduces the need for large, expensive office/storage space, cuts costs, limits duplication of effort, facilitates the retrieval of documents and makes them accessible to those users who are so authorised.

Our scanning bureau specialises in high volume document scanning, 16mm & 35mm roll microfilm scanning, all types of microfiche scanning, book scanning and also aperture cards, maps, paper and a full indexing service.
Services
IImage Retrieval Ltd (IIRI) was established in 1995 to fill a gap in the market for flexible high-quality scanning services. IImage Retrieval (UK) Ltd, a sister company of IImage Retrieval Inc in the US (est. 1990 aims to maintain the position as a British industry leader in providing the highest quality scanning and software services to the widest possible business marketplace.
IIRI are leaders in this arena with a huge investment in specialised equipment to handle any size or type of project on film. Our scanners include four dedicated Nextscan Roll film scanners (16mm & 35mm) produce high quality, high volume digital images from roll microfilm.

16mm microfilm is usually used to store A4>A3 documents, especially ones that have signatures such as employment records, contracts, hospital records, etc. which have been committed to film due to archival requirements.A normal roll of 16mm will contain roughly 2000 to 5000 images. 35mm microfilm is generally used to store technical drawings, plans, books and newspapers.
For this kind of work IIRI generally use a number of Sunrise scanners. Images can be saved in a variety of formats with the most common being multipage Black and White tiff. IIRI also offer a full indexing service for the images based on the customers requirements. The images can also be converted to different formats, such as PDF.
How we scan depends on the intended use of the images afterwards. If they are just required for viewing and printing at smaller size than originals then we can scan at a fixed reduction ratio. If however they need to be printed back to original size then the reduction ratio needs to be correct for each image and this will increase the price of scanning.
