Essex Dementia Care
Essex Dementia Care was founded in 2006 by occupational therapist, Dr Tessa Perrin, in response to the lack of support for families living with dementia in Essex. Maintaining a positive engagement with all the valued activities of daily life is critical for good health, this belief forms the core of everything we do at EDC.

The ultimate aim of EDC is to contribute to the health and wellbeing of people living with dementia to continue to live active and fulfilling lives. We work closely with families throughout Essex to ensure that their family members are enabled to live at home for as long as possible. We provide care for people living with dementia whilst also providing respite, emotional support and education for their main care-givers.
Services
There can be no denying that dementia changes lives. In its earliest stages it can affect the way a person works, how they socialise, the activities they enjoy and even the way they interact with their loved ones. Dealing with this change can lead to a huge loss in self confidence as people find themselves struggling to do things that they had previously taken for granted.
We currently have activity centres in Braintree and Chelmsford. Each activity centre offers an active and stimulating environment which can accommodate the special needs of people with dementia. Carers are very welcome, and find support through meeting and sharing with other carers, joining in the fun, or simply by taking some time out to recharge batteries.
Every Day Counts is a support group which has been set up specifically for people in the earlier stages of the dementia journey. Helping people to retain their existing skills and an active role in community life are aspirations at the heart of all that we do. There's always something going on at Every Day Counts, we may be cooking lunch together, doing arts and crafts or just heading out and about for the day.
One of our experienced dementia care practitioners will carry out a detailed assessment of the skills, routines, wishes, preferences and needs of the person with dementia, and work with you to develop a personalised support plan. That support plan will be built around the person's familiar and valued activities and designed to maintain independence and well-being.
Essex Dementia Care is a registered charity and as such we gratefully rely on donations and grant funding to help us to maintain the high level of service that we provide. You can help to support our work in a wide variety of ways, from donated resources to fundraising. We really cannot emphasise enough just how much every penny counts.

I am a volunteer with EDC in Braintree and am proud to be a part of the fantastic care this charity provides. I look forward to spending time with everyone involved and the day centre is a place where we look out for one another, it is fun, we laugh, we forget our problems for a while but most of all the group is full of warmth, sincerity and… nothing is too much trouble because we all care from the bottom of our hearts. A quotation that strengthens me when life is difficult is " There is something beautiful in everyday, you just have to find it! Look for the positive ". As a team member

My dad goes to the centre in Braintree three days a week. He comes home every day with a smile on his face, he has a sense of purpose and feels valued as a member of society. The staff here work tirelessly and deserve our praise and gratitude for supporting all members of the group. Well done, you are much needed and appreciated. Thank you. Meghan
