The Purcell School is a co-educational boarding and day school for young musicians aged 10 to 18, and Britain's oldest music school. Based on the outskirts of London, in Bushey, Hertfordshire, the School provides a rounded education with music at its heart to approximately 180 talented young players, singers and composers.
Entry to the School is based upon musical ability and potential, not upon background or ability to pay, thanks to the Government's Music and Dance Scheme and the School's own Bursaries. Students share a common bond in their passion for music, and the School's community is one of rich creativity and mutual support.

Following a rigorous interview process with Purcell's Principal Paul Bambrough and members of the Senior Leadership Team, in which all candidates were outstanding, the School has appointed Zozi (Year 13) and Philip (Year 13) as our new Head Boy and Head Girl. Joining them and completing the Prefect team are Bertie, Anelise, Jenny, Christian, Reese and Ella (all current Year 13).
The Purcell School is a lively, vibrant and energetic community of young musicians who are united by a common passion for music and driven by a collective ambition to become the finest version of themselves possible. One has only to spend a short time at the school to fall in love with its unique atmosphere and to be inspired by the commitment and dedication of our astonishing young artists.
The mission of The Purcell School is to provide exceptionally gifted young musicians (irrespective of background) with outstanding teaching within a supportive school environment and to equip them with the self-confidence, adaptability, maturity and perspective to sustain their professional development and personal fulfilment throughout their lives.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Purcell Patron Dame Fanny Waterman at the age of 100, and pay tribute to her remarkable life. She was and continues to be an inspiration to all at The Purcell School, and has left an astonishing legacy in the Leeds International Piano Competition.
