Services
As opposed to your regular dentist, a 'Specialist Orthodontist' undergoes 3-year-long special training in the art of straightening teeth after graduating in dentistry. In other words, Dr Mulgrew is trained to specifically straighten teeth. Dr Mulgrew has a special interest in cosmetic discrete orthodontic treatment and is one of Northern Ireland's leading Invisalign providers.
Braces used to be associated exclusively with awkward-looking teenagers growing up. However, technological advancements in the art of orthodontics have made the entire process much more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. In fact, adult orthodontics is the largest growing area in orthodontics. Braces are used to treat a wide variety of 'malocclusions'.
The first appointment is basically a consultation, during which you discuss with Dr Mulgrew what you don't like and what you would like to change about your smile. Your bite and your teeth are subsequently assessed and all necessary measures, photographs, x-rays and impressions are taken. Dr Mulgrew will then move on to explain the options available to you, and the risks and benefits of each of them.
Once your brace is fitted, it will take a little time to get used to it. Be prepared: as the teeth begin to move - they may ache! Take comfort in the fact that this is merely a sign that your teeth are moving and that your brace is doing its job. Also: take painkillers if you need them! The initial discomfort will ease after few days.
Invisalign is one of the most advanced and modern alternatives to traditional train track braces. Invisalign uses a series of see-through gum shields (aligners) to straighten your teeth. These aligners need to be worn full-time, but, unlike traditional braces, can be removed for eating, cleaning your teeth, and for special occasions.
