Gosforth Civic Theatre
Gosforth Civic Theatre is an arts venue, caf and community hub in Gosforth, and is home to, and run by, Liberdade Community Development Trust. Liberdade is a disability arts organisation, we began in 2003 as an apprenticeship scheme with the aim of enabling 8 young people with learning disabilities to set up and run their own physical theatre company.

Those 8 original company members and now many more show how running an organisation can offer people with learning disabilities choice, and the opportunity to shape the world in which they live. We opened Gosforth Civic Theatre in 2016, and in 2019 we hosted more than 900 events and activities, and invited over 50,000 people through our doors.
Services
GCT is run by, and home to, Liberdade Community Development Trust charity no. 1163955, who have worked with people with learning disabilities and autism since 2003 and took on Gosforth Civic Theatre, formerly Gosforth Civic Hall, in 2016, to create truly inclusive place at the heart of the community where everyone can belong and take part in the arts.
We want you to be involved in GCT, we want to know what you would like to see and participate in, and we want to find out a little bit about you so we can tell our funders about the people who are using the building and why (this will help us raise more money in the future, and we won't however share any of your contact data with anyone else).
Fully licensed from 11am with two outside seating areas, including our community garden - a secret gem of a beer garden and great when heading for a pint in the sunshine - GCT Kitchen is a must visit for food and drinks when out in Gosforth. You can expect a mouth-watering menu bursting with flavour, using the freshest ingredients from the finest local suppliers in the region.
Gosforth Civic Theatre is the perfect place to host your celebration, special occasion or social gathering. Our super flexible spaces allow you to create the perfect environment to bring people together for events big, or small. It's your occasion, so please speak to us about we can make your event unique to you.

Last night I went to a concert here (James Yorkston) and it was wonderful. They did a great job of creating an inviting and atmospheric space while keeping us all socially distanced. Thanks so much for bringing artists of this calibre to my local area.

Very friendly urban cafe with garden. Brunch is very good - I recommend the vegetable fritters! The staff are really nice. Lots of good music and theatre here too. Please support it: it is a local treasure.

Covid safe. Courteous staff. A wonderful civic resource that was supporting the locally based but nationally recognised Eliot Smith Dance. Excellent bar service. Well ventilated, versatile space. Cherish a facility such as this. You are lucky to have it!!!

Great café. I had a local cola and my Mum had egg toast which came with strawberries and blueberries and maple syrup. She has a fruit tea to drink. Waiter very good, friendly and efficient. The outside area is lovely in the Sun.
