Services
1993: R Doig Optometrist Ltd was established by Robert Doig after 10 years working with Cyril Harper Opticians on Keith Street. His own business venture was set up on the site of his maternal grandmother's shop, I M Kennedy, 36 Kenneth Street, Stornoway. At the time of opening, the team started with Robert and 2 optical assistants.
Your optometrist will do various tests and procedures, depending on what your needs and symptoms are. A sight test will be included. Sometimes, your optometrist may not be able to do all the tests and procedures during one appointment or may need to repeat a procedure. If so, they will ask you to come back for a follow-up appointment.
As an independent practice R Doig Optometrists is able to offer a wide range of Contact Lenses available from manufacturers at competitive prices. As a member of the GOC and the College of Optometrists we make sure we always provide our patients with the most appropriate product for their needs.

Contact lenses are a medical device and as you only get one set of eyes it is important to look after your contact lenses correctly and avoid the risks of having any complications associated from contact lens wear.We provide all-important aftercare services. Our Direct Debit system covers the cost of all regular aftercare visits as well as visits required for any issues that may arise from time to time.
Good vision is essential in childhood development and regular eye examinations are the key to good vision. Research has shown that one in five school children have an undetected eye problem. As 80% of a child's learning occurs visually, many children cannot see well enough to reach their full potential or enjoy everyday childhood activities as much as they could.
I-Care tonometry: was introduced in 2014 to replace the older, more familiar puff test, which patients often found unpleasant. This device manufactured in Finland, takes a quick accurate measurement of the intra-ocular pressure of the eye. Patients often comment on how less intrusive the test is. This is available in the Stornoway and Balivanich practices and on home visits.

R Doig is one of two opticians in Stornoway and personally I think it is the better one. Robert Doig is a very caring and understanding optician. A relative had severe eye problems last year and he was incredibly helpful.

The shop has a nice layout. You are greeted by a member of staff as you enter and has a small seating area while you wait. They had 2 opticians last I checked (this could now have changed) but I've found everyone to work there pleasant and helpful.

Getting an appointment can take a while however if you have an emergency they will see you straight away.
