East Northdown Nursery
William and Louise Friend run a small, 'Friendly', family run business at two combined farm, plant nursery and business centre sites, one at "East Northdown Nursery" Ct10 3BN and "East Northdown Business Centre"CT9 3FF, at George Hill Road, Margate, Kent. At our East Northdown Plant Nursery, we specialise in plants for 'Mediteranean' conditions that cope with the problems of growing in chalky, coastal conditions.

We are always happy to give advice and help select plants for a particular situation. The adjoining East Northdown Business Centre has provided premises for local small businesses, community groups, charities of all types, serving the local community, for the past 25 years, in the tranquil garden and farmyard setting, in the Northdown Conservation area, centred on the old Friend family home of Northdown House and Park.
Services
The farm acts as a 'community hub', offering affordable premises to a host of businesses of all sises and types. If you are looking for premises in the area, or planning a new enterprise - we would like to hear from you. Contacts details for businesses below available on request. All deliveries via the George Hill Road entrance only.
Our second plant nursery in the West Midlands specialises in a complimentary range of plants better suited to the cooler, wetter, more acidic conditions of the north and west of Britain. Mucklestone Nurseries is a plant nursery set up by William and Louise Friend. Their main nursery and home is in Kent where they grow 'Mediterranean' plants, suited to the dry, exposed but mild micro-climate of the Isle of Thanet and chalk soils.
Note - visitor access to the nursery is via 'The Rock Lane' - a small unmade lane off the B5026. From Loggerheads/Eccleshall/The South/ M6,J 14, when entering Mucklestone village, take first turning on the right, by the old post office -opposite the old school house. The nursery is 100m up the Rock Lane on the left.
We hope our web site with its extensive catalogue section will help you find and select plants suited to your garden or grounds especially those plants you have found difficult to source elsewhere. We have published this full catalogue (see below) in both PDF and in Excel format so that you can choose the format that suits you best, but we would recommend excel as being quicker and easier to use - with a search function.
We try to stock a comprehensive range of plants across our two sites. From this range we can help you select plants to suit your planting scheme and ground conditions, either at the nurseries, by phone or e-mail.

If you have a list of plants suggested by an architect, designer or a list you have seen or read about, we can check that these are suitable for your site and tailor a selection of plants from our stocks to suit your needs and to create the effect you are seeking within a set budget. Please e-mail us with a list of the plants you require, and we shall reply, once we have checked our stocks, stating quantities and sizes available.
