The Longholme Cafe & Hire
Please be advised that tables cannot be booked. We operate a walk in system and allocate tables to parties as they arrive. On busy days a 'wait list' may be in play and we will seat you as soon as we can. For larger groups please be advised that our largest pre-set table is for 6 people, for parties larger than 6, it is likely the group will need to be sat on 2 tables.

Please check in with the host on arrival. Hidden back from the main road over the river you can find us on Longholme Island between the upper & lower Great River Ouse. Join us for breakfast, lunch or hire one of our boats. Our humble venue is open to all and has been refurbished to benefit all who use the river & local area.
Services
Due to a combination of factors in 2020/2021, that have mostly been out of our control, it has resulted in severe disruptions with this service. As a popular, fun and historical activity we are keen to rejuvenate the service in 2022 when it is safe and operationally viable to do so. We are saddened that the service has been suspended for such a period.
Working with the Bedford parks teams to ensure an inviting, open and clean space for everyone to use when they visit us. Devised to provide a central hub for both locals and visitors to Bedford and it's surrounds, to raise the profile of the town as a dynamic, unique and ambitious visitor destination.
Our ethically labelled coffee created by our supplier generates revenue for their charitable partners at the source. They partner with charities throughout the growing regions of the world ensuring that the communities benefit from the coffee that we buy. Roasted in the UK's most technologically advanced roasting plant which guarantees our customers a consistency of taste.
We're commited to making things better every day at the Longholme. We take this approach also in the way we consume products as a business and how we can limit our impact on the environment. We sit at the end of a large production line within the hospitality industry, delivering the finished product to our customers often for consumption.
At The Longholme we know that our team are crucial to the success of our cafe. Although we're only a small operation we have exacting standards and like to make sure the customers are being looked after. We have 2 sides to our team, to see how you might fit in take a look below at the different roles.

My wife and I had breakfast for the first time this morning at the 'Longholme Cafe'. We were very impressed by the overall set up, with seating outside and in. They are definitely covid friendly, providing overhead patio heaters and blankets to keep you warm if you wish to use them. The service given was attentive and informal without being overbearing. I ordered the 'Longholme Hash' which was tasty and perfectly seasoned. My wife ordered the brioche bun with a free range egg and smoked bacon, which she enjoyed and said was very tasty. Having tried and been impressed with the overall package at

Best chai latte I ever have. Amazing location, great service. Nice n cool staff. Wonderful views around. It’s at the edge of big lake n on other hand Great River Ouse is beside. It’s really in middle of a park where u can walk around while having ur tea or coffee. Always prefer to b there for another chai latte.

Food is lovely but the coffee leaves a bit to be desired - it's a dark roast and can be a little ash-y.
However the macaroni cheese was gorgeous and the location is gorgeous .

I come here almost every week - it's one of the most baby-friendly places to eat and drink in Bedford in my opinion. They always have space for us, no matter how big our group or how many babies we have with us - the staff really are stellar. The cakes are lovely and I recommend the chai latte.

Lovely weekend breakfast spot. We were lucky to get a table and in a perfect spot.
I've got a vegan panini with mushrooms and it was delicious. Coffee was great and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.
The nice as usual, Covid19 precautions are adhered to, with social distancing, disinfection.

Came across this lovely little cafe today, super clean, very friendly staff, table service, perfect for prams and wheelchairs, deck chairs, tables, boat rides, lakes, blue sky and cake what more does anyone want. Breakfasts, lunch, snacks, home made cakes yum yum, there are some lovely little touches like deck chairs, cumber water and fire pits for cold days. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back.
