Usually this would be considered too far from the equator to fully ripen grapes, however Champagne's distance from the coast provides a warmer continental climate that ripens the grapes early and provides the perfect balance of sugar and acidity for producing quality sparkling wines.
The method itself for adding the sparkle to the otherwise thin and acidic still Champagne wine, is actually very intriguing which is known as the 'traditional' or 'Champagne method.

These wines that have been grown in accordance to principles of organic farming, which involves no unnatural additions to aid the growth of the crops. However, these wines are not necessarily vegan or vegetarian. Organic wines hold the promise of less sulfites, no pesticides, containing no added sugar.
Niepoort ports are a Dutch family established in Portugal since the 18th Century and producing quality rather than quantity. Niepoort has been described as "the Rolls Royce of Port". My first experience with Niepoort goes back to 1975, when armed with courage and conviction, I met in Oporto about 10 different potential suppliers and Niepoort was my lucky choice.
A 6 bottle selection featuring 3 Bordeaux White wines from Chteau Les Bertrands, Chteau Anniche and Chteau de Bonhoste. A famous family property since 1876; five generations of winemakers have passed on their know-how to Christophe Bonnet, who carried on from his father Jean.

Rich and complex, it will seduce you by its deep notes, sips of citrus and honey worthy of praise. The original source of Sauvignon Blanc! This old vines selection naturally brings more structure than the classic Sancerre. This wine will need more time to develop but will bring that extra dimension and certainly will match oily fish cooked in rich sauce or strong flavoured cheeses.

When I’m looking for fantastic, quality, yet affordable French wines, this is my place to go! Each wine has clearly been carefully sourced with taste and quality in mind, offering exciting hidden gems or affordable classics the traditionalists can rely on. Their repertoire is ever growing and evolving ensuring only the best of the best is available. More importantly, I’ve only ever found the Hourlier team to be a down to earth, knowledgeable team that can point me in the right direction when a little inspiration is needed to help build up the cellar or pick something enjoyable when I’ve made

Over the last five years we have ordered from Pierre Hourlier regularly. We went to Pierre originally to but some unique glasses we couldn't find elsewhere and then spotted his excellent selection of Cremant. After a couple of Cremant orders we realised that his ability to select and source first class Cremant must mean that he would have the same skill in selecting red and white wines as well. Sure enough we were right! Now we realise that not only that he focusses on the regions that we love for those wines, particularly Languedoc, Aude and Minervois. So we are hooked and I can only recommend

Quality, Value, Friendly, Efficient and Speedy, all aspects of a specialist French Wine company in the UK that fully deserves a 5 star rating. I have used local, regional and national wine suppliers for domestic use over many years and none offer the service that Pierre Hourlier Wines does. If someone knows of a company that is better than this then I would love to know about them.

Hourlier Wines is a gem of a wine supplier. I first bumped into Pierre and Jean Pierre at a food and drink festival a few years ago and I was impressed with the knowledge and passion instantly. From my few incoherent phrases about what I liked they were able to recommend superb wines which I have enjoyed immensely.
Since the wine store opened up in Melbourne the experience has just got better, I would recommend a visit to anyone. You are made to feel welcome but never pushed and a lack of knowledge is not a problem, trust me I should know!
