Birkwood
Our team is headed up by Mark Williamson. An Australian by birth, Mark is a time-served cabinet maker who served his apprenticeship in Brisbane way back in 1992. There he continued his professional development within a large shopfitting business and gained valuable additional experience in AutoCAD design and project management.

Fuelled by a dual passion for mountain biking and a cooler climate he moved to the UK in 2004 and after managing store fit-outs for a large outdoor retailer, opened Birkwood in 2007. We're based in Perthshire, Scotland and our kitchens and furniture have found themselves installed throughout Scotland from Orkney in the north to Dumfriesshire in the south and all points in-between.
Services
We are an unpretentious and honest cabinet-making workshop with small showroom. We design, make and install beautiful cabinetry around Scotland, using plywood as the foundation for all our work. Every kitchen or item of furniture made in our workshop is as unique and individual as the clients who work with us.
Use our enquiry form across to provide us with as much information about your project as you can, and we'll provide you with a budget figure for your Birkwood kitchen or furniture. If this fits in with your spending plan and you would like to work with us we will request a design fee and proceed to the design stage.
We make our plywood kitchens using a variety of real wood veneers - birch, oak and walnut - each giving its own feel to a space. Adding colour, which we do using Formica laminate, will give spirit, vibrancy and warmth. When brought together, ply and Formica bring a striking yet simple aesthetic, delivering a tough, practical and durable product with a unique and fully customisable colour scheme.
Using plywood for the cabinetry, our in-frame doors and drawer fronts are crafted using a five-piece shaker-style construction, or in a preferred style of your choosing. The centre panel is birch plywood and the stiles and rails are solid tulip-wood; tulip wood is a beautiful, stable wood and offers a perfect surface for hand-painting.
Several years ago we decided to invest in a boiling water tap for the Birkwood staff kitchen. It's a compact space and not only did we want to neaten things up but we really wanted to minimise the time we all spent waiting for the kettle to boil (there's always work to be done!). We spent a reasonable amount and installed a (non-Quooker) unit which looked nice.
