Deans history spans three centuries as the leading UK manufacturer and installer of blinds and awnings. The company was founded in London by a policeman's son, Tom Dean, in 1894 and was later taken over by his brother John. John Dean started out making canvas bags, which were in great demand as water carriers by the British forces across the Victorian Empire, especially in South Africa during the Boer War.
Between the two world wars Deans became well known nationally, not only as a major force in blind making but also the owner was chairman of the local Fulham football club during its inter war heyday. The company is still privately owned and the current owners are just as enthusiastically and directly involved as the family ever were.

Services
For almost 130 years, we've been manufacturing awnings for British shopkeepers and commercial businesses from our London workshop in Putney. Deans Blinds are the original manufacture of the Victorian-style canopy that today we call the Deans Shop Awning. Back in 1894, Deans Blinds pioneered the idea of commercial awnings for shops and pubs in the High Street.
The Deans Traditional Victorian Awning, or 'Deans Awning' as it was originally known, is a genuine design classic and British success story spanning three centuries. Its perfect combination of beauty, robust performance and competitive pricing has established the awning as an icon of the British high street and led to wide international demand.

These page provide examples of projects, popular awnings for specific application and important points to consider when choosing a suitable awning.
Why do I need an awning outside - won't inside blinds or curtains protect my furnishings? Yes, they will. But you won't be able to see the lovely day outside and the awning will reduce the heat gain inside your home. How do you build a Dutch Canopy? This is a specialist product requiring custom equipment and really should be sourced from a reputable awning company.

We are very pleased with our Markilux awning from Deans - but the journey to this point was tortuous. Our first Deans awning, purchased on advice from the Deans salesperson was the wrong size and in the wrong location. It provided shade for our fence, rather than the window as defined in the brief to Deans. It was a huge waste of money. Second time round we knew to do all the research and planning ourselves rather than leave that expertise to Deans. We were cautious to check and double check what was being ordered, thankfully as there was confusion at one point. The lead time was weeks longer than

Superb service from start to finish, the awning that we inherited when we moved to our property failed in an outward position and Natalie very kindly sent out a team of hers to get it to retract until a new one could be made and installed with a new motor. We were kept fully informed of the process from start to finish and would not consider using anybody else but Dean’s in the future, I can’t recommend this company highly enough, the fitters that were here yesterday were very polite and professional on quite a tricky large job, many thanks

Very efficient Company! Kept me informed all the way through the process of ordering, delivery & installation. The blind was a replacement for an old one previously supplied by Deans Blinds some 35 years ago and was erected and the old blind removed in lessa than 1 hour. Highly recommend their services.

Classic Dutch Canopy
So far, so delighted!
Finally the sun is out and my new awning, installed two months ago, is absolutely doing what I wanted it to do.
We have a fully south facing garden and a sitting room with double patio doors leading on to the garden. The room is light and bright on dull days. However in full summer sun it becomes an oven!
This type of awning provides stylish, cool shade to the room for as much of the day as it is needed, and can be set partially down, as required.
Service from Deans was excellent from the start. Great attention to detail and a desire to fully understand

We used Deans blinds as they were well known and we thought we’d be on safe ground with a brand. The person who came to do the initial survey was confident the wall was suitable for an awning and there was no suggestion there would be a problem. The awning was installed but unfortunately it then cracked the brickwork. After the brickwork cracked it took two days to get anyone from Dean’s to return my calls. When I eventually spoke to someone I was told our wall was at fault and they wouldn’t accept responsibility. An independent bricklayer who quoted to repair the damage said there was absolutely
