St Martin's Trust is an ecumenical charity, founded in 1997 by a group of Christians who wanted to work together for the good of the local community. The funds raised from book sales are used to support local and other good causes including Michael House (a Bournemouth charity for the homeless) From the very beginning, St. Martin's has been much more than a bookshop.
It has been a place of meeting, of sharing and offering 'tea and sympathy: it offers what has been described as a 'ministry of the listening ear.' Several of our friends suffer from dementia or are recovering from strokes; some of our volunteers have mental health and physical problems and they benefit from the companionship and encouragement that St. Martin's offers through membership of our 'St.

We do not have a searchable on-line catalogue of our stock, but we shall be pleased to check our shelves to see if we have any title you are looking for. Please note that shop opening hours are subject to the availability of volunteers (we have no paid staff). To avoid disappointment and a wasted journey it is advisable to phone the shop (01202 419 119) before coming in.
To be eligible, an applicant must live in Dorset (post 1974 boundary changes) and should be prepared to provide supporting evidence including a statement of finances if required. Most applications are made through other organizations e.g. As a small charity with limited resources, we cannot fund every application, nor can we finance all of the cost of special equipment, but we may be able to make a contribution.
