Services
This 19th century sandstone house situated in the Leith area of Edinburgh had been left unoccupied and neglected for a period of years. The cream coloured sand stone was left open to the elements resulting in erosion by atmospheric pollution, wind driven rains and the freeze thaw cycles of the Scottish climate.
The stone masonry works above are just some of the services we can help you with. We also specialise in Lime Pointing, Lime Renders, Lime Harling and Lithomex Lime Mortar Repairs. As well as properties issued with a statutory notice we also carry out emergency stone repairs, where a building or part of a building is declared unsafe to the general public.
Edinburgh Stone Chimney Repairs - Through lack of maintenance, this chimney stack has become unstable to such an extent that it has undermined the structural stability of the stack and will lead to its eventual collapse. If you are looking for an Edinburgh stone mason who has extensive experience and knowledge in chimney repairs and re-builds, then Burgh Stonemasonry can help you.
Although we are highly trained in restoring listed buildings and period properties, Burgh Stone Masonry also specialise in the repair of traditional stone and lime constructed solid masonry walls. These walls are often ancient, having stood for hundreds of years and require a repair and maintenance programme to keep them in a good state of repair to preserve them for future generations.
Routine inspection and monitoring, dealing with defects at an early stage and regular maintenance thereafter will prolong the life of stone walls at a lower cost. Where a wall has not been maintained, and the pointing material has become loose or dislodged, the ideal situation for the establishment of damaging plant growth has been created.

Paul fully re-pointed the front of our house and one of our gable ends with a traditional lime mortar. His knowledge and advice was extremely helpful and he certainly knows his stuff. All the work was done to a very high standard, in a professional manner at a competitive rate. I only wish I had found Paul and Burgh Stonemasonry sooner... I have had various stone works completed over the last few years and he has certainly been the best. Would definitely recommend for any stone work.

We had our garden wall repointed, as well as having several stones replaced. Paul's advice regarding what could be done was very helpful. His quote for the work was very competitive and the work was completed in a very professional and timely manner. This is the second piece of work he has undertake for us. He'd previously replaced several damaged steps about 10 years ago. I would definitely consider him again should I need any further work doing.

Paul and co. completed a full repoint of our gable end recently, and were a complete pleasure to work with. Absolute professionals who know their stuff when it comes to working with lime mortar and the requirements of traditional stone buildings. Rates very reasonable indeed. Would definitely recommend.

I cannot recommend Paul highly enough. My flat is in a sandstone tenement with 14 associated flats in the stair. A severe winter storm smashed a large chimney stack onto the flat roof (causing some internal damage to my property in the process). Paul was fast and efficient in coming to assess the external chimney damage and provide a quote. He was the cheapest of three quotes, but also impressed with his level of professionalism and knowledge. So much so that the owners in the stair agreed to take the opportunity and undertake additional maintenance to the sandstone at the front of the building

We had Paul and his team out recently to repair and re-point an internal stone wall and fireplace in our living room that we had exposed in our Victorian Edinburgh tenement flat. He also re-pointed an internal brick wall in our hallway. We were very happy with the work they carried out, both during and after the works. Paul is professional & knowledgeable and basically did a great job for a very reasonable price. Definitely recommend this firm as trustworthy and reputable. The two feature walls internally are very beautiful and we are very happy with the look of the work.
