John Metcalfe, The Full Octave
We are a small family business mainly specialising in new and restored pianos at affordable prices. We are dealers for both the acclaimed Feurich acoustic pianos, in additon to being main dealers for Korg digital pianos. The company was established by John and Liz Metcalfe in 1998, evolving from the family tuning and repair business set up by John's father Arthur Metcalfe in the early 1950's.

We hope you enjoy browsing our website and should you be visiting the Lake District, you will always be assured of a warm welcome and any non musical friends can always rest with a cup of tea in our child friendly garden.
Services
The Full Octave is privileged to have within its staff, members who are college trained musicians and as such they are happy to offer in-depth advice on their particular specialities, these being Brass, Woodwind and Keyboard. In addition the staff possess a working knowledge of a plethora of other musical instruments.
We always endeavour to give a informative and courteous service. If you feel that you wish to write a few words in support of The Full Octave we would gratefully appreciate it. In a similar vein, if we are able to improve our service or perhaps stock items we currently do not, please let us know by getting in touch.
If you have time we would strongly encourage you to first read our All Things Piano section. This will give you information as to our overall policy with regards to the restoration of pianos, it will hopefully assist you when you view the individual instruments. We offer a range of pianos. This is one of our two showrooms.
We are now dealers for the superb range of Feurich upright and grand pianos. Due to relatively restricted showroom capacity, we decided to deal in higher quality instruments rather than one of the vast range of rather cheaper instruments available.

The Feurich instruments are all beautifully manufactured with the 122 model in particular comparing and in our opinion surpassing the tonal response of its main competitors which sell at a much higher price. All models within the Feurich range are available however not every model will be in stock in our showroom.
Although we would always encourage young pianists to learn on an acoustic piano, we absolutely do realise the requirement nowadays for a smaller size and silent practice. On this basis we have searched for a digital model which most reflects these issues but most importantly offers as near as possible the touch sensitivity of a touch piano.

John and his helper moved a beautiful, old German concert piano down some pretty tricky stairs into my flat. The service couldn't have been better, the craic was second to none and the whole thing was done quickly and efficiently - guaranteed me a customer for life!

We called in to the Full Octave at the weekend to ask some advice about buying a violin. We were given excellent advice about where to go and who to speak to and also were given the names of some potential tutors. John and Liz were incredibly welcoming and friendly. We would recommend popping in to see them if you have any musical questions (or fancy becoming Morris dancer as John will try to enlist you!)

For the last 12 months I've been looking to purchase an upright, acoustic, piano to replace my previous digital one. Having visited several music shops, a friend recommended the Full Octave...
I orginally planned to purchase a used Yamaha U1, mainly because they are a reliable, well-known brand. However, I changed my mind after trying out a brand new Feurich- Model 122. "Universal". (Previously I had not been familiar with the German brand).
Both are certainly good quality instruments and are in a similar price-range, but after comparing them side-by-side I discovered that the Feurich had a warmer

This is a wonderful music shop.
They specialize in pianos. They will buy, restore, upright and grand pianos, and sell new ones. The other nightmare with pianos, is transporting them, but you can confidently leave this, together with tuning them, in their expert hands. This is beginning to sound like an advert, but I think that this shop is run by a superlative set of people who are commited to music.
The other useful facet of this shop is that they sell instruments on hire purchase, to the people in the local area. This is usful because the local senior school is a Music Academy.
