Julie Moss set up Bramhall Interior Design Services in 1984 after studying at Manchester City College and achieving a City and Guilds in Furniture Restoration. Bramhall Interior Design Services have built up extensive experience in the restoration of Antique furniture, upholstery, hand painting and guilding. We carry out the majority of restoration work in our workshop but do offer an "on site service" for work on Staircases, panelling, beams, doors, windows, shutters and large pianos.
Services
We specialise in hand polishing furniture in the traditional manner using time served techniques. These finishes are ideal for maintaining the value of an antique piece of furniture and create a beautiful lustre which will show off the timber, be it solid or veneered. Staining furniture, reviving a tired finish, liming, waxing & bleaching are a few of the many techniques available as well.
Julie has over 30 years experience in all aspects of furniture restoration, soft furnishings and upholstery. If you are planning to redecorate or rearrange a room and would like to create a style based on an idea from a picture or magazine, Julie can offer advice and knowledge on how best to achieve that "special look".
As the staircase was on three floors, work began on the top floor, stripping years of dirt and dark stain away from the handrail and spindles. Scaffolding was used to access awkward areas. Using special techniques to remove water stains, sanding out nasty scratches, ironing out severe knocks and dents.
The staircase of our house was in a dreadful state, covered in paint and old Victorian black varnish. Julie spent weeks stripping those ancient coats and revealing the beauty of our Parana pine staircase to it's original Arts and Crafts glory. Endless coats of French polish made it silky smooth to the touch.
