We are observing guidelines and directives with care: only the large rooms are being used, ventilation is good, instruments are sanitised and there is gel available for hands and masks/visors are being worn. For those who prefer, lessons on skype and zoom are still available. If you haven't been in touch with your teacher direct about restarting lessons, then do email drmsblandford@gmail.com or ring 01258 452511.

The same applies of course if you are thinking of starting lessons. Our Music Appreciation courses will be restarting at the beginning of October in Ringwood on Monday mornings 10.00 - 12.00, Bridport on Wednesday mornings 10.00 - 12.00, Dorchester Wednesday afternoons 2.00 - 3.30 and at DRMS Thursday afternoons 2,15 - 3.45.
Services
We offer tuition in all standard instruments, singing and in the theory of music. The majority of our teaching is 'one-to-one' but shared lessons are available where appropriate. Zoom and skype lessons are still available for those who prefer but we are able to offer face-to-face lessons in our three well-ventilated rooms where social distancing can be observed.
Our Singing for Pleasure choir meets in Blandford on Monday evenings; String Orchestra and Cello Club meet in Dorchester on Thursday evenings and there is also a Cello Club in Blandford on Friday evenings. No audition is necessary and you don't need to be able to read music - just turn up and enjoy exploring a wide variety of music.
We can offer a comfortable ground-floor room with a cosy atmosphere and seating up to forty people leaving a performing/presentation area. Last Night of the Proms - Thank you to everyone who came to this event on Friday in the Corn Exchange, and to the Blandford Stour Valley Band, the Dorset Rural Music School, Julie Newall, Sam James, Justine Templeman, Clive Newlin and all volunteers who helped put the event together and helped on the night.
We have a range of string, woodwind and some brass instruments available for short or long-term hire. A sophisticated electronic instrument by Copeman Hart with seven speaking stops and two harpsichord stops; sound is delivered through two free-standing speakers. The specification makes it especially appropriate for continuo use, and 'baroque pitch' can be established at the flick of a switch.
This list identifies sets containing a useful number of copies (in most cases a minimum of 15). There are a great many smaller sets which you are welcome to come and browse through - please ring (01258 452511) or email drmsblandford@gmail.com first to make sure that there will be someone here to let you in.
