I am a one man business and have been restoring and making furniture and all manner of wooden articles from the same workshop since 1988. I left school and became an apprentice in a well established Birmingham shop fitting company who had a very high and exacting standard.
After being made redundant in 1984 I worked alongside an experienced cabinetmaker/restorer in workshops attached to an Antique shop in Moseley, Birmingham, where I was privileged to "cut my restorers teeth" on mainly Georgian and Regency furniture, a grounding and knowledge base that has been invaluable in the subsequent years.

Services
Based in the Midlands, serving the whole of the UK and with over 35 years experience I offer a variety of furniture restoration services including Furniture conservation and Furniture repairs, Wood turning, Veneering, Marquetry and Parquetry, Carving, French polishing and Cane, Rush and Sea-grass seating.
I can repair and replace damaged and missing carving accurately to the original. The finish is reproduced to match the original piece of furniture, picture frame or carved sculpture with gilding being offered where necessary. This is a carved statue of the Taoist deity Shou Lao (God of longevity). As you can see from the above photograph it's arms and staff were missing when it came to the workshop.
If you have an idea for a piece of furniture, no matter how complicated or crazy!, I can offer a design and cabinet making service to fulfil your requirements. From an initial meeting with a sketch book, we can work closely together to create a piece of furniture to match your exact requirements.
I am equally happy to work and design using modern man made boards, veneers, finishes and contemporary designs as well as using traditional woodworking methods, solid timbers and designs. There is a great thrill for clients to see their idea and initial sketches coming to life before their eyes ending in a bespoke piece of furniture to enjoy and be proud of.

Marquetry is the creation of pictures using different types of veneer and can be used to decorate pieces of furniture, wall panelling or as wall hanging pictures. Using the variety and beauty of the different grain, texture and colours of veneer, panels can be designed to the client's specific needs, to replicate photographs, designs or as contemporary works of art in their own right.
If you require carving to embellish a piece of furniture, a picture frame, the woodwork in your house and garden or a carved item such as your family Coat of Arms, I would be more than happy to chat to you about it, and discuss your ideas further and how to bring them to fruition. The finish required can also be tailored to suit your requirements and the final position of the item.

Stuart did a wonderful job of restoring our smokers bow chair. It was made by my great, great, grandfather, so meant a lot to us as a family and I really would not have entrusted so loved a piece to anyone other than Stuart.
He had to replace one leg entirely and although it is a rather complex shape, he has done this so expertly, including matching in the colour, that it is totally seamless and solid as a rock, meaning it can be passed on through the family for many more generations. We are delighted with it.
