Services
People seek counselling for many reasons. Some may be upset by what is happening in their lives now, or be troubled by the past. Others may feel anxious, confused or depressed for a reason that may or may not be obvious, and unable to see the way ahead. Counselling gives you space and time to pay attention to these feelings, and work through them to enable you to live in a more satisfying and resourceful way.
Tilehouse Counselling is a charity that provides professional counselling for people from Hitchin and North Herts. We offer a choice of face to face counselling at our Centre in Hitchin, or telephone counselling. By providing counselling the Centre aims to reduce emotional suffering and enable people to make positive changes in their lives.
Mental health problems in the workplace cost the economy approximately 70 billion annually in the UK and 91 million workdays are lost due to symptoms of mental illness. Looking after the mental health of your workforce obviously makes for good business, not only in terms of building a sense of belonging and well-being and a commitment to an employer that cares, but also in terms of productivity.
Tilehouse Counselling relies on much appreciated donations from charitable trusts and from individuals and receives limited statutory funding. All donations go directly to providing professional counselling and therapeutic group work for adults and young people.
We have counsellors who are professionally trained in telephone counselling - this is recognised by the British Assocaition of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and while very different to face-to-face counselling it is by no means a 'second best'.We have had many new enquiries for support and many of the clients already in therapy with us are suffering increased anxiety with the uncertainty we all face.

Having gone through years of mental health help elsewhere and not getting anywhere. My daughter decided to try going down the private route. Though she is still struggling mentally , the fact she is able to get weekly meetings and finding someone she is able to talk to with better understanding is definitely making a difference. Even during covid closures they would still have an a appointment with her each week via the telephone. Definitely would recommend.
