Solway Aviation Museum
We need additional volunteers (museum guides and counter staff) to help extend the museum's opening hours. We currently open Friday's, Saturday's and Sundays from Easter to the end of October with additional days for Bank Holidays. You would be provided with full training and uniform and would work alongside existing team members.

The hours are from 09.30 to 18.00. Own transport is essential due to our location at Carlisle Airport. You can volunteer as much time as you like but most volunteers work a couple of days per month. If you are interested in helping out at the museum then please contact us on 01228 573823 or you can email us.
Services
The Solway Aviation Museum is home to a collection of aircraft, aviation artifacts and displays reflecting Britain's position as a world leader in aircraft design and innovation at the dawn of the jet age. The museum's primary objective is the preservation of our Aviation heritage, its display and interpretation.
Access to the Vulcan cockpit is included in your museum admission. Please advise the counter staff if you wish to visit so that they can book a slot for you on one of the tours. To get in to the Vulcan cockpit you do need to climb a ladder - if you are not confident on ladders please take this in to account.

A superb museum. I visited with a group from the Vintage Motorcycle Club and we all savoured a fascinating display of all sorts of aviation memorabilia with informative notices. Much larger that expected, so a return visit will be required!

Went as a last min decision on Sun 15th August 2021, as we were staying locally in a holiday home, and was impressed, especially by the volunteers and staff who run the museam. Well worth a visit!

An absolute gem some very different aircraft, spanning many areas of flight, Fantastic displays including, a very interesting presentations on female aviators and their role during the early days of flying and their crucial role during the wars.
The aircraft look magnificent even though they are out in the open.
They have an amazing collection of cold war era jets
Well worth the visit

First ones into the museum following the recent lockdown closure 👍 loved our time there - the guys have a ton of knowledge on all aspects of the museum. We spent two hours there, even with a one year old and didn't get through everything. Many more hours of entertainment there!

This is a real gem of an aviation collection. A warm welcome was had from the very enthusiastic volunteers many of them double also as restorers of the collection. Always very knowledgeable about individual aircraft & exhibits, very keen to share the background stories & history of the site. The recent completion of the F-4 Phantom is very impressive with a great deal of attention to detail. The other aircraft in the collection are great to see & in time will see their own restoration taking place. The highlight is the Vulcan cockpit tour which is fabulous this is not something that can be done

We had a great afternoon, staff friendly and knowledgeable. We even got the opportunity to have a sit in the Vulcan along with a few other air craft. Recommended.
