Services
Acign is a little town near Rennes in France, and every August Bank Holiday weekend Sherborne Tennis Club members challenge the Acign Tennis Club in a Tennis Tournament. Various families host the players, and non-playing partners are most welcome to take in the many events organised. The venue alternates from year to year - the French hosted in 2019 so 2020 is the year when the French will come to us.
This event, which has taken place for at least 20 years, is open to all ladies of 45 years and over. Tennis is played all morning till about 2pm, after which lunch is provided at Stockbridge Farm Barn, kindly given to us by Cherry Willoughby, a member of our Club. Ladies from all over Dorset and South Somerset join us to make this a very special day - save the date in your diary now!
As a Club we are committed to meeting the LTA's new standards for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. This means that the club has adopted new policies and procedures for safeguarding, diversity and inclusion, and whistle blowing, together with codes of conduct for coaches and club volunteers, children and young people, and parents or other adults accompanying children.
Sherborne Tennis Club is situated at the Terrace Playing Fields on the outskirts of Sherborne on the A352 together with the Sherborne football, rugby and cricket clubs. There is a modest sign saying "Sherborne Town Council - Terrace Playing Fields". Go along the lane and park in the large free car park and you should see the floodlights of the courts on the left behind a long Leylandii hedge.
Joining Sherborne Tennis Club is easy. There are no entry requirements - you don't have to be "played in" and there is no waiting list to join at the moment. You are welcome whether you are a beginner wanting to learn how to play, someone looking for social or family tennis, or an experienced player wanting to play matches.
