Our expertise, based on 30 years in the Refrigeration Industry and more than a decade specialising in Horticulture, means that we can. Our expertise, based on 30 years in the Refrigeration Industry and more than a decade specialising in Horticulture & food industries. One of the issues IMA faces when traveling around the world is that clients often believe that Refrigerated Containers.
We are an established refrigeration company specialising in both design & build projects both in the UK & overseas. We continue to grow even within this hard market place with the majority of our orders coming not from hard advertising but from an established client base & through recommendations. We have at this present time an active office in Kenya & are in the process of setting up an additional manufacting base for our HHC coolers in India.

Even in these early days the company built its own cold rooms and freezers and was one of the first to use composite panels which are common place today. Prior to the formation of IMA Cooling Systems in 1989, the company had begun to diversify and found itself heavily involved in fresh produce refrigeration during which time our range of High Humidity Coolers (HHC) were developed with sizes ranging from 12kW to 130kW.
Our first two overseas contracts were in 1990. A large Pack House complex in The Gambia with two 100kW Pre-Coolers and a smaller scale Pack House with a 50kW Pre Cooler in Portugal; This facility was a strawberry farm where the High Humidity Cooler was used for storing Strawberry plants at 2°C and 97 RH for export, mainly to the UK.
IMA builds to British Retail Consortium (BRC) standards, this means our facilities can pass audits carried out by UK Supermarkets, before they will accept any produce. Bansang Hospital The Gambia, West Africa, IMA has donated a second hand cooling unit for their morgue. We also advised them on a suitable refrigerator for their blood bank which we supplied at cost.
IMA have developed a range of single and multi-compressor packs which are manufactured in Italy. We have taken the best equipment and components available and developed systems. Our main aim is energy saving so we use an intelligent pack control to stage up capacity controlled Bitzer compressors with inverter driven condenser fans.
From the moment the produce is harvested its deterioration begins, particularly in hot climates. Whatever the post-harvest cooling system, the first importance is to get the harvest to the pre-cooler as quickly as possible. Conventional refrigeration systems are slow to cool and the longer time spent in reducing the produce to its required temperature the greater the weight loss.
