Whether you're an individual looking to bring your ideas to life in metal, a council or community group seeking expert metalwork restoration, or an engineering firm searching for fast, high quality manufacturing production, you've come to the right place. Specialists in one off custom projects, we can be far more flexible than bigger, mass production foundries.
Between our four production experts, we have almost 150 years of experience and it really shows in the love and care we put into our work. We pride ourselves on being a personal business and regardless of the size of your job, we'll remain in contact with you throughout the production of your project and ensure you feel part of the process.

Services
Joining the business in 1977 as a 15 year old apprentice, Stuart has 40 years experience in all elements of foundry work. A passionate local historian, Stuart oversaw the "excavation" of our original 1895 foundry and loves working on heritage and restoration projects. Joining as a 16 year old, but practically a newcomer having only started in 1979, Dave oversees all elements of production alongside fellow stalwart, Stuart.
Engineering projects have been our lifeblood for many years. We work with a number of large companies that service diverse Industrial Sectors, producing complex castings with intricate cores such as impellers (single and double suction) and diffusers, as well as straightforward items like bushes, flanged bushes, bearings and half bearings.
As a little piece of history ourselves, working on restoration and heritage pieces is a real delight. From individuals to community groups & preservation societies, we have covered a huge range of projects; be it faithfully recreating Victorian guttering, refurbishing HMS Warrior or restoring damaged WWI commemorative signs!
We have worked on many railway and traction engine projects over the years. Amongst other recognisable vehicles, we have worked on the Tornado and Puffing Billy steam engines and we've even produced custom parts for James Bond's Lotus! On a more day to day basis, we regularly make brake blocks, fire bars, axle boxes, wheels, bearings and valves as well as replica engines & crankshaft components.
Big or small, personalised or existing design, no plaque or sign is beyond our capabilities. From blue plaques for Councils to Harry Potter and Harley Davidson signs for the home, we love to cater to both business and individual requests. Whatever plaque you need making, we can produce it and will ensure the highest quality and turnaround.

Went here to get some plastic gears cast into metal. Stuart was a great help and very friendly. He had plenty of time for such a small job and even gave us a little look at the amazing workshop and some casting being done! Would certainly recommend this place to anyone. It's just a shame more places like this aren't still around.

Having tried to source a replacement fire damper that broke in two after several decades of use, I was put in touch with the William Lane Foundry. After sending them the broken part, they offered to make a new one! A brilliant piece of work that should last another few decades. Very helpful staff and willing to go the extra mile to help.

I First visited this Middlesbrough gem on a visit arranged through Middlesbrough heritage and I loved it.It was fascinating seeing first hand how they made articles with the metals and enjoyed listening to Stuart and David tell us the history and the stories of their experiences. I wish I was quite a few years younger and I would apply for an apprenticeship. The next time I went with my friend to pick up a Cannon Street road sign for her daughter. What a masterpiece, loved it I believe you could take any idea to them and they will make a beautiful piece of art for you.

We went for a look round the foundry today, and what an utterly fascinating place!
We were shown round by David and Stewart, who were both welcoming, knowledgeable and very funny.
Our group ranged in age from 13 to 76 and we all found it so interesting, to learn about our local history and heritage.
If you ever get the chance to visit, during the open Middlesbrough sessions, it is so worth it. A fantastic visit!
Thank you.
