The Heron Farm Shop & Kitchen has something to suit everyone - whether you are looking for a quick bite of delicious food, a leisurely lunch, or browsing for a great selection of fresh local and Scottish produce. Run from our farm on the outskirts of Strathaven in South Lanarkshire, we are a family run business with husband and wife team, Emma and Angus, and our two children Katie and Rory.
A couple of years ago we made the decision to diversify and open a farm shop offering a selection of home grown and local / regional produce. Our driving concept is 'field to fork' - food provenance, seasonality and freshness. We were amazed to discover the wealth of produce ready to be sourced from the local area; as well as Lanarkshire producers, the farm is close to the border with Ayrshire and its array of locally produced foods.

Poor customer service Should of written no customer service! Visited with two young small children on a weekday looking for lunch. Queued outside to be greeted by a very abrupt member of staff, who I recognised from occasions previous… still showing the same lack of customer service! We asked how long the wait would be only to be told “ no idea… there’s 6 tables in front of you” … hardly helpful or accomadating!! Don’t understand why even when you get a table why it’s not table service instead you have to order at the counter surely this is encouraging

Great friendly service. We were a bunch of soggy cyclists on the last leg from London to Glasgow (Ride for Their Lives) and it was a great opportunity for some shelter, food and comfort breaks. Dedicated cycle parking and welcoming signage is always a bonus but the woodburner had some of us huddled around frantically trying to dry out gloves. Breakfast bap and coffee was great and even though the payment technology broke down the staff remained unflustered and also took great care in collecting details for track & trace. I only wish I had space for some shop purchases.

Always fast, friendly service. Delicious food, cake, and coffee served in the cafe and covid protocols are firm but yet not overpowering.
Great that they stock local produce within the shop and respect that they are aiming to reduce waste by offering packaging-free/reusable packaging for much of their stock too.

After hearing great things about this place, checking the website to confirm there is a dog friendly area within the cafe, we then tried to get a table to be told quite abruptly that they could not accommodate dogs inside now due to Covid-19. It was pouring with rain so not an option to sit outside with a baby in pram too. Perhaps the website needs updating to advise of the current situation or if there is no intention to allow dogs back inside.

Just love this wee food heaven. Lunched there a few times now and never been disappointed. Even their Mac n Cheese is amazing 🤩 and then there’s the cakes, plenty of choice for everyone. Definitely worth a visit for lunch, afternoon tea, or just tea/coffee and cake. Also have a shop selling local produce and gifts 😊

Had our 3rd bad experience in this farm shop. The first time it was an hour wait for pancakes at breakfast time - no apology just that they were trying their best. 2nd visit there were flies landing on our… food - which they saw as I watched them swat the flies away, they tried to serve the food to us. Again no apology. Today we went, sat for 20mins, finished our cold coffees - always cold - then a server was sent to tell us the kitchen didn’t have our order. The printer broke. Only seemed to be our order though. No apology just they were trying their best. Why we ever returned I don

Lovely farm shop and resterahnt a few miles outside Strathaven. Nice modern airy building. Great selection of food including some nice vegetarian options. The outside dining area could be a bit nicer considering the nice views with some nice plants etc Food, coffee are are lovely as is the service. But felt it was a bit of a pain that you need to go back and queue if you decide you want a cake etc . But overall excellent place.

The Heron Farm Shop & Kitchen.
Hmmmmmm ... I went there last weekend with Gaby for "brunch" , it was quite nice. The location is very pleasant, the food was pretty good and the coffee was not too bad. Gaby made the comment that it was a bit expensive for what we had but I liked the food we had, so I was quite happy.
However .... I went there on my motorcycle for a coffee and a roll and something from the little snack van outside the main restaurant today (18 July 2021) thinking that I was in for a treat but I was sorely disappointed.
Now I really don't like complaining about things like this

Off the beating track sits a little gem. With great views of the rolling fields. Friendly service and good food. Farm shop has fresh fruit and veg and meat from around the local area. Bedding plants, fruit bushes and trees available to buy. I definitely will be returning.
