Ensuring that you have effectively damp proofed your property is one of the most important measures you as a homeowner or landlord can take to ensure that it remains in prime condition for many years to come. If you don't then dampness in your property can occur. Damp is caused when water and moisture penetrates your property.
Dry rot is probably the most serious form of fungal decay that can affect a property. It can spread through masonry and timber quickly and will attack and weaken both causing severe damage. Various dry rot treatments exist and which one is required varies depending on several factors including the extent of the damage, the location, size and age of the property affected.
Woodworm is caused by the infestation of woods and timbers by various wood-eating larvae of various species of beetle. In the UK the most common type of beetle larvae which causes woodworm is from the aptly named Furniture Beetle. A property's timber is attacked by the larvae which burrow through the wood over a period of years and this has a devastating and costly effect on homes and buildings.
Condensation occurs when high levels of humid air can't be released from a property. When this trapped air touches cold surfaces such as walls or windows it then condenses. If this is not treated quickly then the condensation can lead to the development of mould issues.

Condensation is most noticeable in the colder winter months and is easily identified by such factors as, walls feel cold to the touch, damp patches appear, paint blistering, wallpaper peeling and a prevailing smell of a musty damp odour. In addition, you may experience black mould growth usually on skirting boards, window edges and wall/ceiling junctions.
