We have run our studio, Francis Ceramics, since 1980 and have been based in Pembrokeshire for twenty-five years. Originally, we specialised in studio ceramics but now concentrate on hand-painted tiling. We both have a fine art background, Mike studying painting at the Royal College of Art, and Carol studying painting at the Royal Academy Schools.
These skills have always been of great benefit, providing the ability to create high quality tile panels, murals and individual tiles that embody excellent painting and design. Whilst at the RCA, Mike became increasingly interested in ceramics. The painting school was at that time, situated in a wing of the Victoria and Albert Museum and so provided a continuing opportunity to study the exhibits.

Services
Our collection includes several ranges of contemporary tiles and these can be used alongside our extensive range of Harmony plain coloured field tiles. This panel of tiles has been painted to blend in with original 17th century delft tiles and is an example of how we are able to make tiles to match antique ones for restoration projects.
Here we show the development plans for eight projects, illustrating how a we work with clients to achieve pleasing results. In each case, we were given a brief; some clients are very specific and some leave it to us to make suitable suggestions for starting points. In all cases, we work closely with the client, gaining acceptance for designs and keeping them informed of progress.
The studio is situated in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, in the UK. Visitors are always very welcome but please telephone first so that a mutually convenient time can be organised. If you are coming from a distance, remember we are in a very beautiful, natural unspoilt area with sea, hills and historic sites all at close hand.
