We are a local, independent family run practice. We pride ourselves on treating each of our patients as an individual to tailor the best possible approach to meet your eye and vision needs. At Earlam and Christopher Opticians and Optometrists we believe in providing our customers with professional and thorough eye health care.
We believe that it is always nice to know who you are dealing with, their experience and specialties - and to just put a face to the name!. Mr Farrant graduated from Cardiff University. He is one of only a small number of experts in the country to be a qualified prescribing optometrist, diagnosing and treating eye disease.
You'll never experience a more professional or more friendly and team than at Earlam and Christopher. It is advisable to make your appointment several days before hand unless it is an emergency. We also invite any new patients to pay us a visit before they book so they can get a real flavour of how we operate and have a chance to look around our fantastic range of frames and sunglasses.
At Earlam and Christopher we pride ourselves on a thorough eye examination and provide services for both private and NHS clients. Our team of 12 are made up of qualified opticians, optometrists and support staff. We welcome new and old patients alike and offer eye exams in our two clinics in Taunton and Langport plus home visits and an emergency eye clinic.

Fantastic, professional, friendly consultation. After 4 years of hospital appointments in Essex, getting nowhere for a double vision and cataract problem. I moved to Somerset and contacted Earlam & Christopher as soon as possible during the first lockdown. After the first consultation, they knew exactly what I needed to right the double vision and I was put on the waiting list for the first cataract to be done. I was really struggling with dry eye in the evenings I could barely keep my eyes open it was awful. Since attending Earlam and Christopher this has almost gone the ILP treatment has been a godsend, thoroughly recommend this practice to anyone suffering with any eye conditions they go above and beyond with their care. I booked on a 5 star view from google, as I haven't used an optician in the area.
They were very professional from start to finish. Explained there services and the fees throughout and was never pressurised to buy anything.
It was good to know there was an additional NHS service when it came to eye complaints and I think in the future would trust this practice more than my GP.
I cancelled a fitting appointment due to a double booking at work, this was not a problem and didn't incur an additional costs.

Great service and very thorough. I went for a check up knowing my sight had deteriorated only for Gabrielle to spot a problem that turned out to be Wet Macular Degeneration. I was referred to the Hospital where treatment has stopped the leakage. The care and attention both before and after the hospital treatment has been first class. I could not praise Gabrielle enough for what she has done.

I can highly recommend Gabby, this is the third opticians I visited in as many weeks. I wanted to try contact lenses so went along to my usual opticians who gave me 2 different types to try they didn’t work for me so they said there was no more they could do. So I tried another independent opticians who tried another sort of contacts with the same results. I was going to give up but as a last resort I tried Earlam and Christoper in Taunton where I saw Gabby she was brilliant. She checked the prescription I had been given and found in her opinion to be different so she gave me another lot of contact

I am so happy to discover that there is treatment for dry eyes - I had got used to being blurry eyed and having trouble when driving or staring at something for too long. Having started treatment with the wonderful team at Earlam & Christopher I am thrilled to get clarity of vision back, and am telling all my friends about it. The whole team have a very helpful attitude to patients and are also very understanding and kind. I highly recommend them.
