Services
I thought it might be nice if I introduced myself! So many web based businesses try to remain anonymous and remote from their customers, I thought you might like to know who I am. My Name is Steve Walker and I have been a been a Stone and marble mason for 52 years and a specialist stone engraver for twenty (of those) years.
Stone engraving is a distinct and specialised branch within the stone trade. Stone engravers need to master a daunting and diverse range of skills, from working and polishing many types of stone to mastering the intricacies of computer graphics! However the most skilled stone engravers will be able to offer the very best in house signs, commemorative plaques stone carved artwork and much much more!
York stone is a wonderful natural looking stone for house signs. The colours ranging naturally from grey to buff to yellow/gold. The stone is hard wearing and weather resistant and after decades of service will restore like new with pressure washing! Indian cream coloured sandstone is a superb high quality stone and makes beautiful stone house plaques.
Over the years I have been engraving house signs I must have been asked a thousand times "which is the best type of stone?" On many of these occasions I would have quite sincerely replied "York Stone". However if I am honest my reply would have been framed by the latest piece of work I had done that I was most proud of.
I first began using Indian sandstone for my house signs twenty years ago, soon after they first appeared in the UK market. They were then a completely unknown quantity but now Indian sandstone is widely recognised as high quality stone. Of course the quality can vary, although lumped under the term "Indian sandstone" the different types and colours are sourced from numerous quarries across the sub continent.
