Services
I have had over 25 years of experience working in the antique trade but my passion for traditional craftsmanship has been lifelong. After completing a degree in the Conservation of Fine Furniture, I then began a traditional apprenticeship in the Cotswolds before working in the heart of London's Mayfair where I was given the opportunity to elevate my skills on some of the the best furniture from around the globe.
Gilded surfaces by their very nature are generally fragile and with time can become worn or scratched. They always gather dirt and dust as gilded items tend to be ornate in form and so require an element of cleaning before repair and restoration. From fully re-gilding from bare wood to aged gilt surface conservation, I can provide all aspects of repair and restoration to either water or oil gilded pieces.
From reviving or enhancing an existing finish to full grain filling, or repolishing and colour matching either a traditional oil, wax or shellac surface or a contemporary sprayed finish, I am able to offer all of these to a high standard. The art of finishing fine furniture encompasses a vast array of skills, techniques and products.
As seated furniture constitutes such a large proportion of items that I have to restore within the workshops I have dealt with huge numbers of upholstery projects throughout the years. Finding good traditional upholsters is a difficult enough process as many only have experience with modern materials and foam fillings.
For many years now I have been one of the few to gain a strong reputation in the conservation of 20th Century design. Alongside my experience in antique repair and conservation, I have worked on and developed the skills and techniques required when conserving 20th Century design pieces.

The techniques involved in the restoration and conservation of modern furniture are very varied because of the wide range of construction methods, variety of materials and different finishing processes used.
