The food was very good, and well presented. The table service was friendly, and very courteous. However, as a fairly large group of people, we were crammed into the back room, where the entrances to the toilets are. There was a steady stream of people walking through our tables all evening, and not one of these people had masks on, as the government's advice currently asks.

The food was below average and expensive,
we asked 4 different people for a drinks order and none responded saying someone else would be along to do it (even approaching The bar we were told we had to order at our table) No one came back even to ask how the food was and when we were billed they failed to deduct the £40 we were made to pay on booking, once they had our food order they were not bothered even when we made our dissatisfaction known when paying they just shrugged it off. Will not be returning!

Booked a table for a Sunday carvery for 3 people at 14.00.Finally seated 20 mins late.Staff left us alone with no indication of wether we should should just go up to the carvery or wait with covid in mind.We had to ask what we had to do.When we did go to the carvery we were presented with the dregs of what food was left.Once choice of meat, that the chef was stretching out to each customer. We were left to fill the plate with vegetables. It should be noted here that other customers also complained about this. There should be the same choice of food for all customers through the lunch period. The lack

Took 31mins to get a drink, after sitting and waiting in the cocktail bar prior to having a meal! After asking for some service Was told there was no staff tonight to make cocktails.. and the bar is shut! But… as we had a voucher which inc cocktails they would find someone to make one! I Am going to email brends.. poor show.. (photo attached was a sun up spritz cocktail..) hardly a wow factor!! Full of ice too!! 👎🏻 The food was nice.. but sadly the evening ruined in the first 31mins waiting for pre meal Drinks.. ☹️ Other tables sent away (weatherspoons) as also

WOW!!! Amazing food, service, cocktails and interior!! Absolutely loved this place and trying to find every excuse to go back!!
Every dish was beautifully presented, large portions, so great value for money and ever so tasty with a touch of class!
The cocktails were incredible and the staff were so helpful and friendly, helping us choose the best ones!
The decor was lovely with spectacular ceilings. Everything with clean and covid safe.

5 of us sat down and admired the wonderfully detailed interior whilst pursuing the extensive drinks menu, service was attentive so we ordered some cocktails and gins which did not disappoint.
The food was a visuall delight and equally delicious (especially the beef short rib), desert was a struggle as all the portion were generous but we managed eat as much as possible and roll out the door!

Ok, so I came here again so am updating my review to reflect the huge difference I found. Service was polite and very friendly, but the food, wow, was so much nicer. It seems to have changed quite a bit since I last went and I would come here again.
Further edit: another visit and they have certainly upped their game! Fitted us in last minute very happily. They also did us a cheeky favour with our food, very much appreciated and has secured a 5 star rating from me :)
Original: I've never had a good meal here unfortunately. The food has always been standard at best with prices that suggest it

We were here on a Thursday evening so it was not too busy. Not overly expensive and the food was very nice (fish cakes and Eton Mess for me and piri piri style chicken and a citrus brulee for my wife, followed by a liqueur coffee each and also a bottle of Peroni and a large glass of rose). The bill came in at around £60,. so granted its not cheap but it isn't a chain pub.
We both liked place and the waitress was attentive and friendly.

The Bank is a great place to go to if you are shopping and you fancy a nice lunch, it serves a good range of food at this time and is not too badly priced. The evening menu is more extensive but be warned it can get very busy, especially at christmas whre they do try to cram as many people in for office christmas parties as possible.
The service is good overall and it is clean and tidy.

First of all, please let me make it clear that I have no axe to grind with J.D. Wetherspoon. I think that they have clearly identified a market niche and serve it well and efficiently.
So: on to 'The Bank' in Barnstaple: England's oldest borough.
Think of The Bank like this: a licensed restaurant with a 'J.D. Wetherspoon-style menu', except that the one at The Bank is more substantial in terms of diversity, quality and quantity.
Very busy ("Please wait to be seated") but good service and good food. Being a converted bank, they have kept the ancient timber
