Services
We have extensive experience of domestic plumbing and will provide you with good honest advice. The British made water softeners we recommend and sell are fitted within our own homes so we know exactly how they work and how efficient and reliable they are. After all, we don't want to come back and repair anything!.
Rainwater is naturally soft but becomes hard by soaking through the geological layers of clay, chalk and limestone that make up a large proportion of southern England. The water companies extract the water from underground aquifers and in doing so draw up these dissolved minerals into the water supply.
Softened water will remove scale from your pipes and can increase the life of your boiler and other domestic equipment such as washing machines and dishwashers. The savings on cleaning products, detergents, washing up liquid etc will more than pay for your annual salt costs and also eat into the capital cost of having a water softener installed.
The principles of softening water are the same for all models. The process is one of Ion exchange where a bed of resin absorbs the calcium ions from the water and the softened water continues its passage into your home. Periodically the resin beads need to be 'regenerated' or cleaned of the calcium so the machine flushes them with brine (salt water) and the calcium and brine is washed harmlessly down the drain.
On installation of your new water softener we will fill it with salt and demonstrate how to work it. We will also leave you with spare salt so you haven't got to worry about running out immediately. It's likely your softener will use more salt for the first week or two as a sufficient level of brine is established but will then settle down to less frequent filling.
