Services
Established in 2012 by Sam Johnson and Richie Emmerson. I took over the running of the company in 2014. Having begun my own alfresco adventures at the age of 5 (or should that be dragged along by my parents) I set off with a rucksack on my back in 2007 for a worldwide adventure which lasted 3 years.
Alfresco Adventures offers a wide range of outdoor activities in some of the most amazing countryside and areas of outstanding beauty in the United Kingdom more specifically North Yorkshire, particularly the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors, as well as the Lake District. It could be abseiling at Brimham Rocks, canoeing on Lake Windermere, walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks, cycling stage one and two of the 2014 Tour de France.
We truly believe that the outdoors provides the perfect platform for businesses to improve their team development. With our expert facilitation, we can provide both experiential learning and educational tasks which provide challenges to your teams. With our wide range of activities, highly qualified staff and excellent locations across North Yorkshire and the Lake District.
Alfresco Adventures offers taster sessions in rock climbing and abseiling for people who are completely new to the sport and just want to "give it a go" to the experienced rock climber who wants to "take it to the next level" in North Yorkshire and the Lake District. Traditional climbing (single and multi-pitch)- where the climber places the protection to provent themselves form a fall.
You must be joking! Maybe think again. Caving isn't all about confined and wet spaces! There is something for everyone in the Yorkshire Dales and it's home to some of the finest and most spectacular natural caves in the United Kingdom. We offer caving experiences so you can step into a world that not many people have explored.

We had an incredible time on Lake Windemere thanks to Alfresco Adventures. We had good communication on the run up to the day and useful guides ahead of the trip so we were all prepared. On the lake we were given useful tips that meant we were soon gliding efficiently down the lake. The Windemere challenge was great fun and the guys guiding us friendly and full of interesting facts about the area. Look forward to canoeing again and would recommend to anyone to give it a try.

My family and I all had a really great afternoon on the paddle boards for the first time today. Sam made our… experience even better by keeping it competitive for those who enjoyed a competition and really easy and relaxing for those who didn’t.
Will be highly recommending to others.

Had an amazing day yesterday Paddleboarding with my family from Ripon to Boroughbridge accompanied by Sam. The day was so fun, despite the rain and great value for money. Sam was both professional and very attentive when we fell but equally relaxed and friendly. We were all beginners and by the end of the day we did not feel like beginners at all. Couldn’t recommend enough!!

Celebrated a 'lockdown' birthday with my kids by booking a caving experience. Highly recommend the experience with a superb adventure exploring underground river basin, underground waterfalls, sliding into pools and scrambling through 'puzzles'. The Instructor was fantastic, passionate about the cave network and provided immaculate safety gear kit. Full marks in every way! Thank you for an amazing, memorable Adventure. 😀👏👏👏

Had such a great day with Alfresco Adventures. Did the 6 hour SUP trip. It was incredible. Well informed . Friendly staff. Quality equipment. Great pace and accessible to all abilities.

I recently did their SUP Ripon to Boroughbridge experience and found that Alfresco Adventures were very professional from start to finish.
Their website was well laid out so that I could book easy and then the communication from Sam was quick, professional and very clear.
On the day, Lizzie the guide was really enthusiastic which helped put me at ease at this was my first time doing Stand Up Paddle Boarding. I was soon stood up, and somehow finished the day without getting wet, much to my surprise and thanks to Lizzie's guidance.
