Finchley Music School
We used to say the you're in easy reach of one us if you live in Barnet, Enfield, Haringay, Camden, Brent, Harrow and even South Hertfordshire. But going on line has changed all that. With a decent internet connection you're in easy reach anywhere in the world, and our reach has certainly expanded, with pupils in many countries, including Poland, Estonia, Canada and China.

We've recently been expanding our pool of teachers, and range of instruments offered. As we gradually return to face to face lessons, we are continuing to offer online lessons where face to face isn't practical. For beginners, a free taster lesson is offered, giving you the opportunity to see how a lesson is run, meet the teacher and see whether or not lessons would be suitable.

This can be perfectly true, but when someone blatantly copies your business, its a step too far. We investigated further and discovered that this was indeed true - another music school had been set up, on Princes Avenue, Finchley, using our name. As you can see from the photo, the name displayed is Finchley Music, and they are using an email address very similar to ours, which we found out when an email they sent out was forwarded to us.
Teaching on-line is different. But with time and patience, teachers and pupils have adapted to on-line teaching, with some having now taken on-line video exams. It's not the same as fact to face, but offers a way forward without which we would be unable to provide the lesson our pupils find so valuable.
The same principles as the Young Musician class are used, but structured to suit this older age group. Note reading and a thorough grounding of musical knowledge are crucial to progress, which is very much part of the study. For children age 8 to 12, these classes use the same ideas incorporated in the other courses, again with an approach suited to this older age range.
To cater for little fingers, the lessons use half or three quarter size violins, especially designed for this age group. Play Violin is aimed at the slightly older student, with a pace to the lesson geared towards this particular age group. Classes contain typically 6 students so there will always be a chance to play as a group to complement solo work.
For younger beginners, a light weight Trevor James Alpha sax means children can begin to play the saxophone from age 7/8. It is then a smooth transition onto a full-size alto saxophone once the child is strong enough to support it on a neck strap. Abracadabra tutor book is used for younger beginners, with Saxophone Basics used for older children and adults.
