We are committed to achieving our objectives, purposes and values in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner. We aim to minimise any adverse impact on the environment from our activities and to continuously improve our environmental performance. Walk into the Hunterian Museum and be amazed at spectacular showcases extending over two floors.
How sensitive is your exhibit and what protection does it need from your gallery environment? Ideally people see the exhibit and not the showcase but where showcase elements are visible, design is critical in relation to exhibits, architecture and exhibition design. From simple labels to full graphics and complex interactives, these elements will influence your showcase design.
Our showcases work hard. As well as keeping your exhibits secure and protecting them from physical damage, using inert materials and sophisticated sealing techniques, they provide a safe environment that can be controlled to keep exhibits in near perfect condition.
The need for inert case materials is well known to museums because with exhibits sometimes sealed within cases for many years, it is important that the case environment does not contain pollutants that can react with and damage exhibits on display.

The case framework is made of aluminium or steel securely fixed together. Our smaller cases can be secured to the floor to prevent removal. For large cases we use a structural steel frame to provide greater rigidity. All glass and structural panels are securely fixed to the case framework. Higher levels of security can be achieved by securing all edges of glass within a metal edging channel.
Glass is the key element of any showcase and should form an invisible protective barrier between the exhibit and the visitor. Amiran glass by Schott has a low reflective coating applied to the glass at the production stage. The coating reduces reflection from 8% with normal glass to less than 1% with Amiran coated glass providing superb clarity of objects on display.
