Please note that the info below is general and designed to give you an idea of what is typical under each category.
The purpose of the windsock swivel system is to hold the windsock away from its mast (so it does not get snagged or damaged) which allows it to easily inflate and freely rotate around 360o. These are the requirements necessary for the windsock to give an accurate visual reading of wind direction. A windsock swivel arm system comprises a bearing housing with an arm attached to it.
Our windsock guide is a list of comprehensive FAQs which we hope will answer any questions you may have. If you have another question that is not in our windsock guide, or you a looking for more detailed information, please do contact us. Windsocks are designed to show the wind direction and give a general indication of relative wind speed.
Windsocks are an wind direction indicator and give an indication of wind speed. However, we are often asked if windsocks are able to detect actual wind speed. Whilst there is discussion about whether windsocks can be calibrated to measure wind speed. This is very subjective to many additional factors such as the locality and environment, the type of mast, the fixings and fittings and whether your windsock has a swivel arm or swivel frame.

Usually we go through windsocks all the time as our CAA Licensed Aerodrome is in a rather exposed position. The last two windsocks have lasted longer than any other by a factor of at least two. The recent storms finally killed a two year old one and the replacement we ordered from the company appeared within 48 hours and is extremely well built. We're not going anywhere else for windsocks in future.
