What unites everyone here is the desire to move on and get on with their life - living together with people and all the interaction and support that goes with that, relating to each other as equals, exercising choices and coping with responsibilities that come with it. We aim to encourage people towards independence and individual choice.
The Community encourages the development of social as well as working relationships between residents and staff, creating a situation of equal persons living together. I arrived in Hamelin having had a chaotic and dangerous ve or so years in and out of psychiatric hospitals. My loving family needed me to be safe and start my own life as well as lead a full life themselves.

We believe one of the real motivations in life is enjoyment. Fulfilment and happiness are the rights of everyone and the Community places a lot of emphasis on activity, from domestic, social, cultural and educational to even preparation for work, giving you the opportunity to contribute to whatever level you feel you can.
Although residents are referred to the Community because of the reputation we have developed over the past 30 years, the crucial element in our success is the input of our staff. Ultimately it is their enthusiasm, motivation and caring which creates the atmosphere at the heart of the Community. The Community operates within a management structure with clear lines of communication and accountability.
Developing emotional wellbeing and the resilience to cope with stressful life events is an essential component of an individual's recovery. As each individual is unique, with differing strengths, skills and goals, their pathway to increased emotional resilience will be led by them. However, we believe that our Community provides an environment that is conducive to this process.
Through the daily routines of the house we aim to encourage people towards independence and individual choice. This routine encourages your involvement in the daily life of the house including organising and planning menus, shopping and cooking, sitting and eating together, organising the day to accommodate yours and everyone's needs, activity and importantly relaxation.
