Services
Orthodontic treatment helps create a healthy functional bite and contributes to improved psychological health due to the improved appearance. After we have examined you we will discuss with you the most suitable treatment options to create your new smile. Every patient is different and certain braces are more suitable than others for each orthodontic problem.
The brackets on your teeth in these appliances have a movable slot that closes over the archwire. Therefore elastics are not needed. Self ligating brackets provide light physiological forces and some studies show that they reduce the treatment time and the need to remove healthy adult teeth in certain cases.
In growing children, at the appropriate age, these removable appliances are used to correct 'sticky out teeth'. There is a top and bottom brace and they act together changing the angulation of the teeth, the shape of the front of your jaws and promote a small amount of jaw growth. They are easy to insert and remove for eating and cleaning.
Removable appliances may be used in children as an early interceptive phase of treatment. For example to correct a front tooth biting the wrong way round. We also use them as part of a full course of treatment to provide specific tooth movements needed to straighten your teeth. They are easy to insert and remove and patients adapt very quickly to them.
After orthodontic treatment is complete and the fixed appliances have been removed, retainers are fitted. The aim is to stop the teeth reverting to their initial position before treatment. Also as our faces change as we mature, throughout life, we must try to resist these changes. We advise that retention is for life.
