The Society Of Will Writers
The Society of Will Writers was founded in 1994 by former Director General, Brian McMillan and 4 other business owners. The Society has since grown to become not only the largest but also the leading self-regulatory body governing Will Writers and Estate Planners alike. We have over 1,700 members across the UK, Central Europe and further afield in places such as Asia and Africa.

To act as a self-regulatory body by vetting practitioners through stringent membership requirements, proficiency standards and ongoing training. When choosing your Will Writer, always be sure to look out for their membership grade and any of the Society's logos. All are public assurance of their bearers' expertise and competence.

May we take this opportunity to introduce you to the Scottish Society of Will Writers (SSWW). The SSWW was formed when it was apparent that legislation would be passed to regulate Will Writing in Scotland under the Legal Services (Scotland) Bill.

The Society of Will Writers and Estate Planning Practitioners, who have been active in Scotland for over 20 years supporting Will Writers created the SSWW to meet the needs of those organisations and individuals who require training and support. To further support Members in Scotland the SSWW has a close association with David Silvester, a Will Writer and Regional Representative for Scotland.
We probably all understand that we should have a Will but the reality is that most of us don't have one. In fact, it's suggested that around two thirds of the population in England & Wales don't currently have a valid Will in place. Making a Will is the only way to ensure that your wishes are carried out after your death.
A person must be assumed to have capacity unless it is established that he lacks capacity. A person is not to be treated as unable to make a decision unless all practicable steps to help him to do so have been taken without success. A person is not to be treated as unable to make a decision merely because he makes an unwise decision.
All of our members hold professional indemnity insurance with a minimal level cover of 2 million. Members are only admitted to the Society after completing a stringent and robust application process. Members are entitled to technical support to ensure they offer the best service to their clients. Members offer a statutory cooling off period of 14 days in accordance with the Consumer Contract Regulations.
