Back pain can be pretty debilitating and actually quite scary, especially as it often seems to come from nowhere. There are many reasons why backs can hurt at any one time including (but not isolated to) sprains, strains, postural problems, disc related injuries, mechanical injuries and degenerative disorders.
The lives we lead sat at desks and driving cars means many of us have suffered with neck and upper back at some point. Usually this is caused by tight muscles over the shoulders and up into the neck due to long hours spent in one position. These muscles never full contract or relax so end up fixed in a short tight position.
Sciatica is actually a description of the pain (it literally means pain in the sciatic nerve!) rather than telling us the cause of the pain. It is basically pain that starts in the lower back or buttock and travels down the back of the leg, sometimes into the foot.
It is caused by the sciatic nerve being irritated somewhere along its path, often from a "slipped disc" in the back, but it can also be caused by narrowing of the channels of the spine or slippage of one vertebral bone over another.Sometimes it can simply be from inflammation in the area or muscles tightness.

The shoulder is one of those areas you don't realise how much you use until something goes wrong. The ability to (almost) completely circle our shoulder is due to a complex of 4 joints (not 1 as you might have believed). And these joints are not very stable because of the large range of movement we need.
Our elbows are very prone to suffering from repetitive strain injuries (RSI), especially for those that spend a lot of time typing, but can also be manual workers or those performing sports. An RSI is the general term used to describe pain felt in the muscles and tendons, which is caused by a repetitive movement.

I had a painful shoulder injury after a fall, for which I sought treatment at Outline Health. Later I received treatment and advice for a long term knee injury.
I received direct treatment and a set of exercises via the internet, both of which contributed to a significant improvement in my shoulder. The knee problem can not be fully cured, but I was helped with management of the symptoms.
My treatment sessions were always friendly and constructive. For anyone with a joint problem I would expect a visit to Outline Health to be worthwhile.

I found Linda very helpful and knowledgeable. I had not been to an osteopath for 20 years as previous experience seemed to make no improvement in my condition. However 2 sessions with Linda got my movement so much better in my back and with less pain so I was able to play a full round of golf the following day. Thanks Linda.

I have been lucky to find Outline Health, Linda puts you at ease straight away, she is extremely good at identifying what my needs are, having suffered from mild scoliosis and chronic back pain over the years I now go to Linda to keep me mobile and positive.
My work involves being on my feet and lots of manual handling, Linda finds different ways of approaching my job and she always listens to me on my return visits to see what helped.
Linda has used a variety of techniques, including acupuncture and I have exercise plans to support my treatment.
I never feel pressured into making another appointment

Linda has helped me to manage a long term back condition so that most of the time I am pain free and do not have to take analgesics. She always explains clearly what is happening to me, gives me advice and support and helps me to manage my care. I totally trust her professional treatment. I have no hesitation in recommending her.

Linda is fantastic! After just one visit to Outline Health my symptoms and mobility improved considerably. It is important to me to understand the theory behind my injury rather than just to throw painkillers at it! Lucky for me, Linda took the time to explain what is happening 'behind the scenes' and how to manage my injury and the road to recovery.
Would highly recommend, Linda really does know her stuff!

Despite being very confused about the differences between physio-this and osteo-that, what I did know was that the pain in my hip had become pretty much constant. On the recommendation of a friend, I booked a consultation with Linda at Outline and within minutes of first meeting her, I knew I was in safe and very capable hands. After just a couple of sessions, the pain relief is already immense and I now have the reassurance of maintenance sessions as and when I need them. Very happy to pass on the recommendation without hesitation!
