Concrete seems to have the ability to connect with human nature on an emotional level. When people see the organic qualities they instantly want to touch and feel the buttery tactile surface. The depth of colour variations, the idiosyncratic faults and highlights are what sets it apart from other surfaces.

Concrete is not a commodity but an art form. It should not be considered a fashionable item but a timeless material which matures gracefully with true integrity. Visit any bar in Morocco and you are likely to find colourful concrete worktops with a rich patina that tells a thousand stories. At Fluid Stone we believe that our work surfaces are certainly designed to out-live their owners.

If you would like to discuss any details of up and coming projects you may have, just give us a call or send us an email. We can give an accurate quote from a very simple drawing. Make sure you include total length, widths and thickness along with any design details such as sink cut outs, integrated sinks, splash backs and drainer grooves, trivets or recessed drainers.
This large 4-metre long concrete worktop has been cast with a chunky 100mm edge. As concrete has a naturally warm and earthy aesthetic, we left some of the inherent voids along the edges to compliment the rustic reclaimed oak units. The kitchen island and floating shelves were handmade by a local artisan called Jos Smith Winney using reclaimed oak from a 400-year-old church in High Wycombe.
This concrete kitchen island was fabricated as one whole integral unit. Pleasant lay-lines and rustic air bubbles are naturally formed on the cascading 'waterfall' ends. This type of casting takes a lot of practice to master. We need to pour the wet concrete into the negative formwork, whilst managing to keep the weight and pressure of the vertical legs from forcing the mix out of the bottom of the mould.
Fluid Stone Studio handcrafted these polished concrete worktops for a residential period property in Birmingham. A plum pigment was used to give a slight warmth to the grey toned Portland mix. A large 400mm cantilever at one end of the island unit serves as a useful breakfast bar for lazy mornings.
These polished concrete worktops cast in a light charcoal colour were handmade for this Arts and Crafts era home in Manchester. Fitted in 2007 and still looking great today. This project features an under-mounted sink with custom recessed drainer & ramp. As this was a very busy family kitchen the client specified to have stainless steel trivets embedded into the concrete surface to help protect from banging pots and pans.
