The firm of Thomas McKellar and Sons was established in 1870 when the present owner's great-grandfather migrated from Mull to the small Ayrshire village of Moscow. Duncan McKellar set up his carpentry and undertakers business there for a few years before moving to the historic covenanting village of Fenwick.
Arranging a funeral can feel like a daunting task given the emotional stress you experience when a loved one dies. We're here to help you from the moment you need us through every step of the way. We will make all the necessary arrangements on your behalf and you can rely on our trusted reputation to carry out a dignified, compassionate funeral service.
When you contact us, we will guide you through the process of coping with a bereavement and are on call 24-hours a day to provide advice and assistance. Once a medical practitioner has confirmed the death at home or in a nursing home, we aim to be with you within one hour of you contacting us, during the day or at night.
As a traditional family business, every funeral is attended by a member of our family and the person you make the arrangements with will be with you to offer support and guidance from the first call to the day of the funeral and beyond. Whether your loved one requested a no-frills cremation or a highly personalised funeral service, we have a range of options to suit all requirements.
On your initial contact with our office, we will ask whether your loved one is to be buried or cremated and also if you know if there is to be a religious or non-religious service. If there is no will, or you are unsure of your loved one's wishes, it is often appropriate to base the decision on what kind of funerals other family members have had.
