Umbria's lush Tiber Valley is home to stunning vineyards, lovely churches, medieval towns and an array of unexpected oddities. In the Canadian territory of Alberta, travellers will find themselves at the epicentre of dinosaur discoveries.

As part of the Bradt Travel-writing competition, Polly Evans depicts her incredible dog-sledding adventures in the bitter cold of Canada. Africa, more than any other continent, has captured the imagination of British explorers and travellers since Henry Morton Stanley had the confidence to exclaim "Dr Livingstone, I presume?" on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. The sheer scale of Africa is an abiding attraction for today's holidaymakers.
The continent of Asia encompasses landscapes as different as the dry steppes of Mongolia (with its camels and wild horses) and the lush jungles of Borneo (with its orang utans, proboscis monkeys and hornbills), the peace of a deserted beach and the roar of an overpopulated city. As ever, Bradt has traditionally focused on those areas under-represented on the book shelves.
It's easy to take for granted those things immediately around us, but the truth is that our own backyard. That's not to mention Stonehenge and Hadrian's Wall; the Giant's Causeway and Titanic Belfast; Offa's Dyke Path and Snowdonia National Park; the Millennium Stadium and Wembley; the British Museum, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Tate Modern.

Bought our first Bradt Guide. We are travel bloggers ( , a shameless plug!) and headed to Bosnia next week. Travel guides for the Balkans are not as common as other places and we stumbled upon this one. What a fantastic book! While other travel guides show you places to see, this guide goes into the "how and why" of the… history and culture so you get a real understanding of the place you're visiting. FANTASTIC travel guide with a true nuts and bolts approach. With just one guidebook you've made me a believer. Bradt will be our go to guidebook for future trips!

Great books for less usual destinations. I especially love the history and culture chapters. Have used many of them, for instance in Macedonia, Iran, Armenia and Karabagh... Next month I am going to São Tomé and next spring to Uzbekistan, of course with Bradt guides in my backpack :) Really great job, guys. And I was wondering, what about a guide for Comoros? :)

Bradt is often praised for publishing pioneering books that stimulate tourism in hidden corners of the world where other publishers don't dare to venture - especially in Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia. These guides typically lean towards ecotourism and responsible travel. Bradt also publishes regional guides to the UK in their slow travel series, which encourages deeper appreciation of these areas at a gentle
