Whether you are completely new to hypnotherapy or a life-long advocate, this website will hopefully provide you with the answers to any questions you have. I have provided an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page which provides answers to some of the most commonly asked questions such as 'What if I get stuck in hypnosis?' or 'Will it work for me?'.
There is also information on me, your Therapist, and my qualifications and personal motivations for practising hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a non-invasive therapeutic intervention, that sits under the Psychological Therapies umbrella. It is perhaps best described as both a science and an art. If you are interested in this aspect of hypnosis, then you can check out my page on The Mind-Body Link.

My name is Julie Sharp and I founded Sharp Minds Hypnotherapy in order to help people change their lives for the better. I am a fully qualified Hypnotherapist & NLP practitioner and am registered with the CNHC (Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council), GHSC (General Hypnotherapy Standards Council) and HSOH (Hampshire School of Hypnotherapy).
Hypnosis is a very natural state that we all enter naturally at least twice daily as our brain activity slows down to a frequency called "alpha". We pass through "alpha" on the way to and from sleep. It is perhaps best described as an altered state of conscious awareness- not sleep - in which the client normally remains aware of what is happening (even if they appear to be sleeping!)
Do you have an overwhelming and debilitating fear of something? An object or place or situation, perhaps? Do you avoid taking foreign holidays because you hate flying? Do you experience palpitations when you see a balloon, clown or dog? Do you find you can't eat or speak in front of others? Would you describe yourself as 'terrified' of the dentist?
Anxiety and depression are often linked but they are not the same thing. Most people experience some form of anxiety when facing particularly stressful situations but anxiety disorders are severe and can disrupt the day-to-day life of an individual. Depression is a common psychological disorder and is more than just feeling unhappy, bored or fed up.
