Services
There are 26 bones in each foot and many more muscles and tendons! So it is not surprising to know that there are many types of foot and ankle pain. Some may be quite specific, such as heel pain or pain in the ball of the foot, pain can be general aches and can get worse at night. Footwear while often at fault is often wrongly blamed for foot pain, however the design of the shoe can be the cause of a foot pain.
Hard skin is caused by pressure on your foot and this your body's way of protecting the sole of the foot. Your Chiropodist will remove the hard skin safely with a scalpel and advise you how to keep your feet in good condition. The heels crack for many reasons. Cracks or fissures can be due to a biomechanical problem where the muscles in the backs of your legs are too tight and this causes your heel to rub in your shoe.
Common ones include fungal infections, traumatic injury, chronic damage, psoriasis and candida. Sometimes the spike can be removed giving almost instant relief, if this is too painfull a local analgesic can be used to make the procedure pain free. A surgical procedure called a 'Nail Wedge Resection' or 'Partial Nail Avulsion' (PNA) can be used.
Verruca are caused by the human papova virus, they are very common and most people will get at least one at some point during their lifetime. The virus infects the layer of skin called the epidermis causing a growth of viral induced skin: the verruca. Often the body's own immune system will get rid of a verruca, this usually takes 6-9 months.
At your first consultation your podiatrist will take details of your address and contact details including telephone numbers. A medical history will be taken, please let your podiatrist decide what is important and relevant.

They will need to know all the medicines you are using (tablets, injections, sprays, suppositories etc.) Remember our advice can only be based on the information given and any treatment plan suggested may not be safe if you don't provide this information.A brief description of why you are seeking help is also recorded, this will usually be in your own words.
